Pakistan v South Africa, 2nd Test, Abu Dhabi, Nov 20-24, 2010
Pakistan doing very well after sending the Proteas in on what will become a very good batting pitch.
SA 3/51 after debutant Tanvir struck three early blows.
These two teams have proven to be very evenly matched throughout this tour of the Middle East. Maybe the underdogs Pakistan has got the upper hand here.
Amla was unlucky though as he was given out caught behind by Ashocker to a ball which he missed by a mile!

Who said Kallis doesn't know how to counter-attack? He's playing a little gem here.

Play it again Sami is back!
His 35th Test Match. He began the game with a bowling average of 50.73, and has already improved it to 51.34. Ian Salisbury is wishing him well.

Same as always, by promising to bowl FAST

South Africa will pay the ultimate price if they are complacent against Pakistan.

The advantages of plastic.
SA finishes the day on 5/311 with AB making an unbeaten ton. Sami sprayed the ball around a bit.

It's uncanny the number of Pakistani fast bowlers that bag a 5fer on debut. Obviously it's the one game in their careers when they aren't burdened with instructions and death threats.....

AB just hit a ton in that session and is on 263. He's fifteen away from owning the record for the highest test score by a SA player. Morkel has made a rapid thirty-four at the other end. Pakistani bowling is now looking ragged.

Great sportsmanship by Smith to delay the obvious declaration and allow AB to break his record.

Interesting that Wessels was asked by his co-commentator if Sooky would be gracious enough to allow AB to achieve the milestone. He replied "Time will tell." It's no secret that not a lot of love is lost between the pair so you'd imagine he would have made a bit of a deal of a declaration. Interesting to see if this extra batting time compromises their victory chances. it wouldn't be the first time that milestones got in the way of them.
Very pleased to see de Villiers break this record. And he's played incredibly well with good support from Morne Morkel who belied his status as a #11 bat the way he played. The bowling looked hapless.

I can't help but think that if this was another team, like say India, you would be among those talking about them playing for records etc.

Um no. If it was a a national record or some such. If it was just for a meaningless 100 or 50, yes.

Of course you would say that. In fact I had no idea they didn"t get on. Probably because they get on just fine.

"I'd like to dedicate that knock to Graeme," said de Villiers. "He showed a lot of class in his captaincy by allowing me to go through and to get that record. I thought we could have declared a bit earlier but he wanted me to push on and to get that record.

Are South Africa the Sergei Bubka of world cricket.
Their national innings record seems to increase one or two run increments. Didn't it go something like 274,275,275, 277 and now 278?
