Re: Pakistan v South Africa, 2nd Test, Abu Dhabi, Nov 20-24, 2010
What odds Kallis will finally break through the double century barrier an go on to the record against India at the end of the year?

Pretty short on the double, not sure about the record. The Indian bowling line up is his sort of line up.
I reckon that game will be a draw though.

Honestly, this is so telegraphic it's positively autistic. We can all read cricinfo. What about some opinion, or at least analysis, or is that asking too much? Would it reveal too much?

If Shillingford's action is being questioned again, surely Botha has to go as well. He has been pinging it like Phil Taylor during his latest spell.

My comment on the bowling was certainly ragged.
As for reporting of records, or near records, nobody seems to object when others post a record with no editorial comment.

I can't help but think that if this was another team, like say India, you would be among those talking about them playing for records etc.
Um no. If it was a a national record or some such. If it was just for a meaningless 100 or 50, yes.
bullsh!t.

So a lead of 320 odd and one day left. Declare overnight or bat around for a couple of overs tomorrow?
I'd declare. Going by the first four days this pitch is still playing well so you'd want all the time you can get to bowl a side out.

320 in a day and a bit is quite achievable though
bat till end of day. use the heavy roller in the morning and hope it breaks up. bat for a couple of overs and declare

spot on do-boy . . . when I read AB spouting on about how great Smith was for batting on to let him get the runs, I thought that's exactly what the bannies get slagged for (and rightly so) all the time . .
And now the saffies might have cost themselves a chance at a series win just for that record . . .

Scoring 60 runs off the last 28 overs has probably done more damage (to the chances of a Jaapanese win) than delaying a declaration to allow AB to break the national record ...

Typical South Africa- Never quite have the courage to gamble and risk a loss to get a win.

they're just hoping that the odds of a win lengthen ... when the money starts going on a draw, they'll know they're in with a stronger chance of victory.

Nothing like batting to set up the declaration is there lads? Against that fearsome change bowling attack of Mohamed Hafeez, Abdur Rehman and Play it Again Sami.
Kallis led the way with a swashbuckling 10 from 37 deliveries and then Ashwell Prince with 27 from 78 and Mark Boucher with 13 from 37 really smashed the door down.

So with India having won the final test against NZ and this series looking likely to be a draw, will India retain their number 1 ranking even if they suffer a heavy defeat against the Saffies?

Aye. Pathetic.
I really hope Pak hold on for a draw, 9 wickets down.

saffies do not deserve to win this...
re mudge's question, the Bannies were not convincing in their series wins at home against two of the also rans of test cricket...
a saffie win would underscore the historic inability of the bannies to win against decent opposition on grounds outside the subi-con

The reason India and South Africa are ranked one and two is because they are the best in the world at not losing, rather than being the best at winning.

WTF? South Africa still batting. 343 runs ahead, 86 overs left in the test. Lame to the extreme.
What the hell is wrong with captains these days? They're so scared of losing that they've forgotten that the objective is to win.

Smith gives Pakistan 80 overs to score 354 to win. What bold, adventurous captaincy. What generosity
