Didn't the selectors say he was too much like Glenn McGrath? Like that was a problem...Hass wrote:I know this smacks of England panic-tactics circa 1995 but has anyone seen Stuart Clark bowl lately?
We need someone who can keep it tight and maintain some pressure with a consistent line and length. He's still plodding around in the Shield for NSW. Would it be worth bringing him back on a wing and a prayer?

Khawaja for North
Why?........He's done F-all this season & was totally out of his depth in the AustA game. There's Fergy but he's only made one score this season against an undermanned Tassie side. JGK was right. There is'nt anyone who has put their hand up this year......in short....we're stuffed.

qmy, Hilditch won't quit, he'll ask for an extension to his contract.
And as for this...
And as for this...

I am sure we could get Ivan Milat or Martin Bryant much cheaper.

Maybe Christopher Dean Flannery (described memorably by Doc Edelsten as ' a nice young bloke. Shoots people...) is a cricket fan and he's become so disgusted by what has happened that he'll come out of hiding and do it for a six-pack of Beam & Coke.

That would be Christopher Dale Flannery.

There's as much chance of Christopher Dale Flannery being alive as there is of me seeing Elvis at the SCG tomorrow!

I don't rate the raghead, but he IS the leading run scorer in the Shield. Agree that he looked out of his depth playing with the YTs in the A game.Big Dog wrote:Khawaja for North

My XI:
Marsh
Watson
Ponting (FFS)
Clarke (FFS)
Hussey
Koala (see how he goes)
Haddin
Copeland
Cameron
Harris
Hilfy or Haurtiz
D Hussey and Blizzard on standby, as well as Butters and George.
Time to reward shield form.

Re: Flaming Bails Selectors Thread - Ashes 3rd Test
Watson
Marsh (home ground) or even Klinger* or Voges (home ground again)
Clarke
Ponting
Hussey M
Hussey D ... or ? unbelievably, North with a deathbed pardon on his home ground
Haddin
Johnson
Swan (I rate this guy)
Harris (must play in Perth)
Hilfenhaus (ditto)
Hauritz (probable 12th man)
In Perth the spin of Hussey or North should be adequate. Voges could introduce a new element ... get the English players worried about his chucking rather than their winning.
If Paine were fit I'd even consider having him as keeper and let Haddin bat at 6.
Katich's loss is a huge blow.
* ... I would not debut Khawaja as opener at the WACA

Re: Flaming Bails Selectors Thread - Ashes 3rd Test
Possibly more important than team selection is the pitches that are served up.
I'm the arch doom monger and even I don't see Australia winning twice in 3 games on Brisbane/Adelaide decks.
Does Cricket Australia do that sort of thing? They're perfectly entitled to. Here, money trumps all and the ECB just want 5 days revenue.

Good news for Aussies ...
"He'll be a bit disappointed with his week's work here," Ponting said of North. "I still believe that he's got great value to the team."
