2010 XI
This has probably been done, but meh, I'll have a go. Why not.
Cook/Gayle
Watson
Trott
Tendulkar/Bell
Laxman
Hussey/Kallis
[Wicket keeper] - Prior possibly. Brendon McCullum's form v India might give him a look in. (Flat pitch might deter selection)
Swann
Steyn
Zaheer Khan
Amir/Morne Morkel/Jimmy Anderson/Roach
12th man: Tim Bresnan

Hard to leave Tamim out, but he's only played 7 Tests this year and I think Trott deserves to be shoehorned into the team, when England have most needed him, at The Oval, Brisbane, Adelaide and the MCG he's come up with the goods. Plus with Sehwag smashing runs at a S/R of over 90 you'd need someone to calm things down.
Kallis, Tendulkar and Laxman, golden oldies but still rattling out the runs, they have all been arguably better than ever this year. Amla unlucky to miss out, but de Villiers has scored a shedfull of runs and is an outstanding fielder.
Dhoni edges out Prior and Haddin, Sangakkara has given up the gloves in recent Tests.
Bowling is pretty easy, not many candidates. Swann the leading wicket taker, Anderson has been outstanding and Steyn and Zaheer have matched their high standards. Morkel deserves a mention. Sadly Aamir should have been in this team at number 8, but he doesn't deserve consideration now.

Re: 2010 XI
Sanga surely makes it as a batsman doesn't he?

Wouldn't open with Trott. He struggled in SA, especially on the pacy, seaming Joburg deck and also was found out a bit in Perth. If the tracks are flat, by all means have him there.
Good bowling lineup there, hard to disagree with any of that.
