On Sunday, Bill Roycroft died aged 96. He was a legendary Olympian in the Equestrian events winning gold in 1960 after leaving his hospital bed to compete.

Remarkable people dropping like flies. It reminds me of the day a few years back after Steve Irwin and Peter Brock were killed within a few days of each other. My little bro called and said "Sh!t, who's next? AB?"

I thought it summed up the moment, though. As motor racing fans, Brocky's death was a bit gutting to us both.

years ago in banjo land I had a spell of jinxing folk who the Bills revered as legends...When I went to Longreach - Slim Dusty passed on to the great barn dance in the sky (the pubs played only Slim that day)...a few weeks later I went to Roma - RN Williams got the final boot (more gnashing of fang and playing of slim dusty)

I think John Blake got the largest accident compensation payment based on lifetime care and Mel Gibson's potential future earnings. He was certainly on his way.

And it was an amazing coincidence that both were killed by fishtails.

I went to a pub yesterday that had a Celebrity Deathboard and was paying out on the winners/losers. Someone had made a killing by backing Seve recently.
Anyway, put a quid on Fidel Castro, so will keep my fingers crossed.

Yeah, £1 to enter and you write the name on a board. Every time someone pops their clogs they pay out, wipe the board clean and start again.

I know this thread itself is in dubious taste, but did you really have to put it that way?Gary 111 wrote:I went to a pub yesterday that had a Celebrity Deathboard and was paying out on the winners/losers. Someone had made a killing by backing Seve recently.

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXI / The Death Thread 2011
Lots of notable folk died in the past 24, but none on any of our lists. This one made me have a quick look.
"Pratt died at his home in a small village in Tanzania, where he had lived for at least half a decade, lawyer Stuart Hanlon, who helped Pratt win his freedom, told The Associated Press from San Francisco on Thursday."
--------------------------------------------------
I thought Drunky may have been on hols and took a knife to Gary Pratt.
Turns out it was Elmer "Geronimo" Pratt, a former Black Panther Party leader who spent 27 years in prison on a murder conviction that was later overturned.
