Re: Greatest sledges of all time
That was a statement of fact, not a sledge.

The Reds of course sledged themselves - even down to the motto - "win nervously, lose tragically"
When I was playing in Shires cricket, we used to get sledged more by our own players than the opposition.
Good times.
good times indeed...my old team also had noisy philosphical debates much to the confusion of the opposition...nonetheless it is successful...winning premierships, running junior teams, even runs an open air child care service on game days - to give the better halves a break!!

Re: Greatest sledges of all time
The best reply to a sledge which led to a Pidge and now dead wife sook on Denton or Rove (can't remember which one) was the one that caused the flare-up on that Carribean tour. Very few people knew she had cancer so the batsman in case was not being any more offensive than protected species pidge.
Pidge: "What's Lara's c*ck taste like?"
"Ask your wife"
Big bloody girl. At least Warnie or AB would've sucked it up with a laugh and a hand shake.

I remember watching the Pidge/Sarwan incident live on TV. Was pretty damn funny seeing him lose it like that.

I can't access the link to check it now Zat, but I referred to the 'sh!t on the end of your bat' one.

It was even funnier seeing him and his Princess attack Sarwan on prime time TV for being offensive. FFS! McGoodbowlerdummyspitmerchant had just thrown out a sledge which would amount to criminal libel in places where that sort of sexual behaviour is illegal (probably but he's still a sook).

I remember all of the Australian players then surrounding Sarwan like wiild dogs and taking turns verbally attacking him for what was a f*cking good comeback sledge. And the captain Steve Waugh standing back, hiding behind his sunglasses and letting it all happen.

Anyone else notice how often M Waugh came second? Much like the rest of his life to date.

Waugh, like Bradman, couldn't lead a toddler to the potty. This team needs to start with a hard arse coach then a tough as nails captain. We can get the coach, fark knows where the captain is coming from.

Re: Greatest sledges of all time
I liked my own effort. After having a batsman swinging & missing at three consecutive balls, i strolled down the wicket and said 'how do you expect me to hit the f**king bat when you keep waving it round like that?"
Re: Greatest sledges of all time
Except for a few (McGrath/ Sarwan and those recounted by forummers) dunno how many of the sledges are true.
My all time favourite sledge and one which I know is true because Bhajji said it 'off the field' as a response to a journalist's question about why he did so well against Ponting, his erstwhile and alleged bunny:
"He hasn't batted for long enough against me, so I don't know."
If memory serves, Ponting did score a century in that series, and did not get out to Bhajji that often, if at all.
But what a brilliant sledge.

No sound, but has captions and footage of Pidge being a dick.

Credit to him for admitting that he doesn't want to be remembered as a foul-mouthed man though.

Maybe, but you don't get to choose though. If a rapist doesn't want to be remembered as a rapist then they shouldn't have gone around raping people.ever hopeful wrote:Credit to him for admitting that he doesn't want to be remembered as a foul-mouthed man though.
Not saying he's as bad as a rapist. Though there was Atherton of course...

I think McGrath certainly deserves to be remembered as a brilliant bowler, rather than a foul mouthed idiot. Not so sure about Merv Hughes though...
