'If Luke Wright can play for England so can I'
I'd sing that at him if I passed him in the street. Poor lad...

Is it balls. He's scruffy behind the stumps and looks very stiff and inflexible. Batting's been as loose as a moose aboot the hoose.
Surprised they dropped him, but England and ODI keepers are a bit like Australia and spinners at the moment - just a random merry-go-round of selection, deselection, reselection and redeselection. Could've been Paul Nixon. Might still be.
Although Davies can obviously feel totally aggrieved that he hasn't got a gig as a batsman-only, given that Wright, Trott and Collingwood, who collectively have about thirty runs in the last ten ODIs to their name, have waltzed into the squad on the back off nowt.
But, hey, what can you do? As with all World Cups, England will be lucky to make it through the group stages. Steven Davies wasn't going to be the difference either way.

He might take a swing at you. He'd miss by a long way, mind - or at the very best catch you a glancing blow with the edge of his sleeve.
Re: England World Cup Squad
So will England persist with Davies in the current series? I would have thought it would be ridiculous to name Prior in the world cup squad but not pick him for the remaining ODIs here in Aus. He's still in the country, after all.
England's selectors wouldn't want to look silly by allowing the possibility of Davies blazing a hundred in the next game.

as a young rello of mine says...England has not played a game or fought a contest by themselves since they threw stones at the vikings

Re: England World Cup Squad
Hmm. I don't know about him opening. Seems better off coming in at five or six. I think he tries to do too much as an opener.
But poor old Steve Davies. He must be sitting in his hotel room, feeling miserable, and wondering why a complete muppet like Luke Wright, who is picked as an 'all rounder' but has hardly bowled more than 5 overs in a year, and slogs with the bat, is picked ahead of him for the World Cup.
I can understand why they went with Prior over Davies, but I just can't fathom why they stick with Wright when they bat him at seven and he hardly bowls. May as well have picked Bopara, or Davies himself.

In his previous stint, slogged it up in the air too much. Not that great against the short ball either.
I'd prefer Bell opening, but no doubt we'll put him at 4 or 5 where he can crab it around for singles against the spinners.

If they were going to select someone who they didn't trust to bowl and couldn't score a run to save his life, why didn't they pick me??????

Re: England World Cup Squad
Prior shoudl not open. He's a flash the bat at it specialist with a decent eye. (Or possibly two.) About a Number 6 in ODIs. Number 5 if there are few wickets down.
I suppose he's being put in to open as a pinch hitter. But he has not impressed in that role before, so it's a strange punt.

What chance of Steve Davies getting a late recall? I'd say... he needs snookers.

I knew England had a huge injury toll, but it seems the ridiculous is now being explored...

With Bresnan, Swann, Shahzad and Collingwood back in the UK recovering, and Stuart Broad still not fit to bowl, that leaves 10 fit players.
Sure, the ECB says it's a remote possibility, but who knows? Could be really interesting...

The ICC’s World Cup Technical Committee has ruled that teams may not call up reserves from outside their designated parties, although in the case of an emergency, members of a team’s management may be permitted to take part in the warm-ups.
England’s back-room staff includes several first-class cricketers, among them the former Victoria seamer David Saker and the fielding coach Richard Halsall, who was once an allrounder for Mashonaland.
Sure, the ECB says it's a remote possibility, but who knows? Could be really interesting...

It's a bit stupid not to allow proper players as replacements just for the warm ups...
