Strauss sh1ts me
Why didn't he smash Lee in the head when he did that gay heel click in front of him?
No match referee in the world would have given him anything worse than a warning

I'm sure hard blokes like Sutcliffe, Trueman or Bell would hot have passed up either opportunity

Pup has been, in the first three matches of the series, effctive as a captain (even though he's been a gumby with the bat.) Yesterday it was back to captaincy by numbers and 'we've gotta bowl the quicks..'
He's getting the quicks prepared for the thumping they are going to get in India.

You think so? Tufnell & Such were not bad spinners at all, I guess you're meaning Ashley Giles but even he did a job at a time we were blessed with a decent attack.
Oh, you mean Gazza Batty!
Oh Lever, how I've missed the odd Essex tint.
I expect that, although Cook's paid up his dues with the batting you're still dark on him for ruining his 1st Class bowling average?

Childs. Don't forget John Childs.
1988. The records prove it.

Ah Essex's murdering, flying cricketer. You don't get many of them crossing careers in this uber-professional age.
Re: Australia v England, 4th ODI, Adelaide, Jan 26, 2011
No - it was par for the course up until "cricketer".

Aye, the murder count was a cause of much consternation for the selectors. That and how one had flown. Ah, the good old days.

He should've taken the Tiger Moth option.
At least he might have got a few gigs on AQOS and Sky commentary then.

Peter Such, 37 test wickets in 11 tests @ 33 - hardly fits the mug category & won us the championship a couple of times, not just my Essex bias surely?
Cookie should persevere with his bowling, but like most top order English players just seems to have let it go.

Considering he played on some almighty dustbowls for his Test wickets, it's not the best. Not the worst like, but hardly someone I'd mention in the same breath as the cat, similar averages noted. County Cricket Ian Salisbury was pretty good in that, I remember.
As for Cookie, yeah maybe, didn't warrant your craziness way back when though sire. 'Interestingly', Marcus Trescothick said last night that the likes of him, Bell etc. just can't be bothered.

I'm weird like that though, someone could take a dump on my front path and I wouldn't give a sh!t, but if they don't close the motherf*cking gate properly I go nuts!
My point re Suchy was that he wasn't Gazza Batty mugoff standard. Tufnell was overrated, and mentally weak several decent performances notwithstanding - didn't really rate him as a cricketer tbh.

No, fair enough man

I wasn't a big fan of either really, but Tuffers was the nearest we got to a decent spinner in the entire 90's. Both flighted the ball quite well and Tuffs in particular got decent revs, but yeah, he was quite weak-minded. You can tell that, even on QoS!
I agree the likes of Batty were the pits, as you remember me crying and crying about him getting chosen over a certain GP Swann for the length of about 4 years.
Re: Australia v England, 4th ODI, Adelaide, Jan 26, 2011
To be fair, I didn't really think Swann was as good as all that... so you were pretty much a lone voice. I put much of that down to Wantage Roads surface and your bias

Nah, I disagree, almost everything he's doing now he was doing at Wantage. Even he's said himself how much he's improved after leaving us, but in the end it's all bollocks. Good spinners learn to bowl on spinning pitches, it's true over here, it's pretty true in India, hence why there's always a decent one lurking around their side. IMO, it's not coincidence that 3 of the best on the circuit and another that would've been were it not for the yips(Michael Davies) were produced on our dry, cracking clay-based soil. That twat Graeme White even, is turning out useful.
Anyway, you can't instill the sort of dynamism that Swann has, he'd always outbowl the likes of Batty.
