This clears the way for the return of Turnbull.

He'll be able to roll Abbott some time next year and win the election when a carbon tax has been "done and dealt with". Abbott will probably advocate some stupid kind of Beazley "rollback" but he won't get very far with it.

I guess Gabba Dan is paying the equivalent of all our taxes several times over, and more (since he owned us all several times over), so this flood levy can't really be a bad thing.

Who will be making a donation up front next time, and who'll be waiting for the levy?

And exactly what "service" is being returned to the community by this tax? Feel-good factor?

IMO Turnbull will never win for the Liberals ... he is widely detested as an arrogant nob, within and outside the party.

I think it was JGK that stated that Australia would never elect a multi-millionaire merchant banker to the top job, and I would agree with that ... even though JGK's dismissal of Turnbull's chances would on JGK's woofing form normally guarantee a subsequent victory.

Re-electing Turnbull to the Liberals' top job would be a concession of inevitable defeat at the subsequent election. He's the Liberals' version of Beazley.

Do i recall the Ranga saying on the day before the election that she would never support a carbon tax or am i imagining it.
If so it was a calculated lie when she knew how close the election was going to be. The lying bitch will do anything to grab power it seems.....after the way she backstabbed Krudd i should'nt be so suprised i suppose.

"There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead"
- Julia Gillard, 16th of August 2010

I take it Ms Gillard doesn't intend to be Prime Minister come the time the tax is implemented next year.

Exactly. I'm still stupified why pollies lies are used by both sides on this forum to score debating points.

Unless of course it's wheat to Iraq or kiddies overboard. couch

The typical response when defending the indefensable. Whenever some one rubbishes labor the automatic reponse is to make a totally spurious & general comment about something Howard may or may not have done a million years ago.
Its totally irrelevant to the current question.
Unlike Gillard, Howard never openly lied to the people. Even when he changed his mind over the GST he told us before the election so we could make up our own minds.
Gillard has sold out to the Greens & its going to cost everyone in the country a motsa.

Why anyone believes anything anyone on either side of politics ever says is beyond me.

How can you tell when they're lying? ... their lips are moving.

Braddles

You realise the reason the Seppoes and Seal bashers only squealed so loudly about the AWB bribes is because the AWB offered Saddam more than they did....

I spent six months next door to the seal bashers.

Embee I hope my emoticon came through.

BD. He did lie. The Australian people did make up their minds. He went from a whopping majority to a close run thing. No mandate there. With that sort of majority he could've advocated capital gains on the family home

The point is that he still won which is something Gillard would'nt have done if she had been honest. In my view the skank now has zero credibility.
