Re: World Cup 2011
Phurt. Roy made 5000 runs at 40 and took 133 wkts at 37 and fielded like a panther. Pathan has 700 runs at 32 and 31 wkts at 35. There is NO comparison. Bevo was THE BEST finisher in the games history and averaged over 50 over a long career. Granted Gilly and Viru are similar but Gilly still shades him with nearly 10,000 runs at 36. And Gilly did it against all the top countries and barely faced the Bangers.PlanetPakistan wrote:JGK wrote:PlanetPakistan wrote:India have probably the best batting lineup ever in ODIs and certainly the best since i started watching cricket(about 20 years)
Only thing missing is an all rounder
I don't see how the current Indian side is a stronger batting side than what Australia put out in the 2003 final.
That's actually a very interesting comparison because for example i see Yusuf Pathan as a very A Symonds like cricketer. Tendulkar is unmatchable although Ponting at that time was playing quite well, Bevan was a bit like Dhoni(of recent times) and Gilly was a bit like Viru.
...now i am kind of confused BUT i still maintain that the Indian lineup is more talented than the 03 AUS batting.
Kohli looks good but is brand new, GG had a purple patch last year but has gone off the boil. Nobody doubts SRT's brilliance but he is going on 50.
To make such a statement after a game v the Bangers is a tad premature IMHO.

Re: World Cup 2011
Not quite like bowling no-balls for money (and on that subject, I think this month of group matches that mostly won't mean very much must be an Indian bookie's dream) but I suppose players will use any method to get a slight advantage. More often than not though, runners end up causing confusion and run-outs so not convinced it's really going to bring a lot of benefit if the player isn't really injured. There's surely more productive ways of bending the rules...skully wrote:I guess. It does rely on the integrity of the player involved. Bit of a shame that we are questioning the integrity of an international star, but after what the Wacksters got up to in England, I suppose it's understandable.

True, beams, but it's about the mindset of the players. In international professional golf, it is almost unthinkable that a player would cheat. It's a shame it's not the same in cricket.

Re: World Cup 2011
In top golf, I think the prizes for not cheating far outweigh the risks of (plausibly) cheating by "throwing" a few shots ,,,,, besides, is there (yet) much betting on say 4th vs 7th final positions in a major?

And I think most other forms of cheating in golf would be far more detectable even than dodgy no-balls ....

That ain't gonna happen. They have been bog-ordinary in the first 15 overs, against fairly anaemic bowling by the Snoozers. Just wasted a referral on the plumbest of lbws. Bennett is skittling them with straight stuff. 3 lbws and a bowled after Southee got the first lbw.OP Tipping wrote:Well here's hoping Kenya embarrasses the shaggers.

The Snoozzzers have to score at 1.4 runs per over to win. It'll be close but i think they can do it.
Re: World Cup 2011
Well, that was the biggest joke of the WC so far. NZ win in 8 overs. I feel sorry for the poor blighters who paid to see such tosh.

Not sure about the confusion any more. Some of the highest scores in ODI's have been achieved with the help of a runner. Yesterday's knock being a case in point.

I always had my doubts on that fatso Kallis in Capetown test. Batted and then headed off to choke on pies in the dressing room.
Obsessive eating disorder isn't an injury. Trust the chokers...

Can't be arsed to look it up, maybe one of the statsheads can.
Whatever, I would say a runner could be of value in hot, humid conditions.

Well that was a woof of JGK proportions. The poor bugger was last seen disappearing in the back of an ambulance.
Have to agree, though. He did look to be a decent bowler until the injury.

Bowlers used in the current match are, so far, Khurran Chohan, Osinde, Baidwan, Hansra and Bizwan Cheema. Great to see how these Cannucks are taking to the game...
