Could've been worse, could've been better. Wonder if they'll delete my files that are, shall we say, a minor breach of copyright law?
Copyright they won't bother with (unless they work for the corporation in question).
"Do you wanna be in my gang?", "Donkey Triumph!" and "Dodgy Horseplay" vids might be a problem though.

Are you using windows? Windows XP? If so your Operating System [Windows OS?] is corrupted. You have to wonder what softwares you have been installing and what sites you have been visiting since your Windows registries have changed beyond recognition. Illegal softwares, Cracks and fixes for illegal stuff and bugged websites can play havoc with registries and modify them too much to make it unstable. You can re-install Windows on your own without spending money. Put in the disc and let self loading of files begin. Then when you come across a choice of if you want to Repair your system or install a fresh one, choose the fresh install one. [Even if you want to repair the system to retrieve any data, at the first stop you must choose fresh install option]. Then follow instructions of pressing buttons to agree to license conditions, installation etc. and again you come to another option of fresh install after format or repair. Now you can opt for repair if the OS still exists as readable to the disc. Usually a corrupt OS means it is too unstable and you need to format and re-install. But in case if pressing for the repair option at second stop works you will be able to repair your OS and retain all your softwares and files. In case you get a message there is no windows in hard disk to repair, go ahead and format using NTSC option and let it re-install the thing. Rest of installation is easy and does not require any decision making manually.
But before doing all this, in which case you can still take your hard disc out and plug it into someone's else's working PC and back up your data. OS corruption means windows won't work but your data on hard disc [in case you have data on C drive] will be there. [Note - in future, NEVER save any files on C Drive and leave it only for softwares]. In case you have your data in other partitions and not in C drive, then don't fear and re-install the crap fearlessly. You will need to re-install all softwares again, but again most of them are easy to install without a minimum of fuss.
If you are using Windows 7 it has an automatic self repair option built in which would have appeared as an automatic prompt. Nevertheless repairing windows 7 is more easy as the PC itself does what is needed after you command it to repair or reinstall. Good Luck. You can save 125 bucks as installing or repairing OS is really cakewalk and you don't need to be an IT expert for the same.

Commiz to poor old Dello on the r00ted PC. Personally, I've had 4 trouble free years out of my Dell PC.
But on a similar theme, lost cable TV, internet and phones last night when a local piece of netowrk hardware blew up, and wasn't fixed until after 11.00pm. The skully household had a DVD night.

Satellite was a sh!tload more expensive to put on when Pay TV arrived in my area, so I went with cable. The landline, internet and Pay TV all come down the cable. Doesn't go down often but it's a barsteward when it does. Like having a frikkin arm cut off.

Re: Computer's f*cked.
No choice down here. If you want pay TV you get a Sat Dish on your roof. When i signed up all the hardware was free so it was pretty economical.

The dish was included here as well. I bought ny decoder some 15 years ago for the never to be repeated price of R3799.
That was right. They retail for R500 now.

Re: Computer's f*cked.
All back, fine and gravy. All files restored. Got to reinstall all of the old non-essential programmes and stuff though, which is a pain in arse. Also have to set up my broadband again, which is also a pain in the arse. And IIRC, getting the printer hooked up last time was a pain in the arse. I guess it will be again.
Aside from that, all is well.

Thanks for that, Captain Obvious. Can't think why that never occurred to me. Reinstalling something by using the installation disc - it's so crazy, it just might work...
Re: Computer's f*cked.
That's great news, Dello. I know there was a lot of folk discussing this in the forum chat room & we were all worried that you might have lost your "belf" files.

You are beginning to sound like Bella Donna. Though more technical. But only slightly.

Good. Nice to know all's right in Dello world again. I worry about you all when you have problems that might disturb your equilibriums.
