Is he about to release a book? It's normally when bad news stories from long ago come to the surface.

After winning the WC SL turned in to a terrible team in the late 90s but at the time Ranatunga was still the captain and i don't expect a man of his stature to be involved in the match fixing.

Tillekeratne can't be taken as seriously as Latif and Haider because he never scarifised and spoke up way way too late.

R'tunga is SL's Sunil Gavaskar, he is way too proud and patriotic to commit a shameless crime like that.

Who did Haider name again?
Kamran Akmal's father in law.

Re: More Subi Corruption
Ranatunga has now come out and said he will name names and substantiate Tillakaratne's allegations. Given that the Fat Bastard is now fairly high up in Lankan politics, I suspect he won't be 'fessing up to any involvement himself.lardbucket wrote:Big Dog wrote:Lankan match fixing

Re: More Subi Corruption
Fat Boy backs up claims
"Former Sri Lanka captain Hashan Tillakaratne has vowed to reveal full details of match-fixing that he alleges took place during his career.
Tillakaratne and ex-team-mate Arjuna Ranatunga claim fixing has been common in Sri Lankan cricket since 1992.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board called on the pair to substantiate the claims and queried why they have only emerged now."
---------------------------------------------
I'd missed the fact that Fat Boy Ramatungadownathroata had thrown his 2-bob's worth in. Fat weak qunt. He was a Lankan Minister later on, wasn't he? Interesting question as to why he's only now bringing these allegations to light.
Wonder who's likely to be sweating on Tillakaratne's detailed allegations?

A Sri Lankan "bowler" was supposed to no ball on the first second third fourth fifth and sixth ball of every over he delivered ...The ICC quickly countered the spot fixing by bringing in the 15 degree interpretation

Re: More Subi Corruption
Has anyone brought up the timing of these allegations and Murali's retirement. It's very hard to fix a sports match unless you have all the players in your pocket, unless it's a mediocre team with a star player.
Think about it. You could bribe a QB but there's another couple of decent players on the bench and the coach might cotton on. A soccer goalkeeper might be able to influence a match. AFL would be almost impossible. League or Union maybe but it would need to be an average team with a superstar halfback or 5/8. Think Newcastle and Andrew Johns.
Now think of a cricket team that has punched above it's weight for years and why?
