Colly blindsided by the ECB
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/13329829.stm
I know sportspeople are stereotypically thought of as a bit thick, but honestly - how could he possibly have not seen this coming? He's been a passenger in all forms of the game all winter, retired from Tests (before being retired), dropped from the ODI side, is 34 with a gammy knee which has started to restrict the amount of bowling he can do: it's got "thanks for the memories" written all over it.

Might I suggest we give him a one year free subscription to Flaming Bails as a retirement gift.

He ought to come down under. We are so crap at 20/20 he would get a game, no probs.

What Miller probably would have said to Colly if the old hack had've called the NSP....

It's up to him. If he can prove his knee is fine, and he shows good form for Durham when he returns, then sure, pick him. He's our most experienced one day cricketer EVER, after all. He could still play a role for the next year or so.

I think it's a bit harsh, but not devastatingly so. He's been gash for a year. Simple. But up until then, he was our best player and possibly could be one of them again, should his injury pan out OK.
Re: Colly blindsided by the ECB
Can't see Colly playing for England again - for one thing, his age is against him. Time to move on.

Aye, his age, but I think he's more gutted about the T20 WC - that's only next year and wouldn't f*ck his knee greatly.

But he can swing a brick - just ask him.Basil wrote:Can't see Colly playing for England again - for one thing, his age is against him. Time to move on.

Yes, this was a bit weird. Kind of destroys the image of all northerners being uber-hard real men who do a 34hour a day shift.

Re: Colly blindsided by the ECB
Colly is from Shotley Bridge ffs.
More seriously, I agree with Horace.
I guess that part of Flower's recent moan about never getting a rest has some connection with this. Permanently with his plotting cap on, he presumably either didn't make up his mind, put off the decision or simply omitted to get round to telling Colly a bit earlier. And effectively dumped the successful skipper of the World Champs at the last moment before young Broad was elevated.
Yes, I know it's only The Globl Hit n Giggle Cup. But England should still be glad of every sporting trophy it can get - to make up (for example) for the dispirited and dispiriting rubbish served up by our coining-it footballing finest, cup after cup, for what seems decades.
As Horrie implies, this is not to say that Colly should have been retained. Just that decorum and due respect should still have a place in the money-led modern game.
