Colly don't run before you can walk.

It was an SL side without Murali, and their top 4 didn't fire really at any point.

To talk about winning the champions trophy is somewhat over the top IMO.

Alot needs to change in the batting before we can do that! I can't see our batters chasing against Oz bowling attack.........

Their top 4 didn't fire because we bowled great first up.

And we're missing our best bowler too.

I agree let's not go overboard but lets not downplay the significance of the win. We are finally getting our act together at the ODI game.

Long way to go. We're probably just 'middling' as opposed to 'utter gash'

Yes we are, but I would suggest Murali is more of a danger in ODI's than Fred...

We are in the bowling department, not sure about the batting though..

Exactly where I would place us.

Who? Oh Fred, right..., was thinking for a moment you meant Harmison.

Anyways, ofcourse you're playing well, you just beat India at home.

Of course there is the fact that our "middling" could evole to "superb" in ODI's with the ousting of one batsman in particular.

Ding Dong .....!! wave

The Champions Trophy is a bit of a lottery, you only need to be capable of beating a couple of the top sides in one-off matches and you've got a chance. We should have won it in 2004 and we certainly didn't have a great side then, even if we were at home. There's no reason we shouldn't have a shot at it next year - though same goes for 6 or 7 other teams.

The World Cup, on the other hand, you first need consistency to make the last four and then to somehow turn over the Aussies when it really matters. Maybe that would be an unrealistic aim for this current side (if there was one coming up in the near future anyway, hopefully we'll be close by 2011) but the Champions Trophy is something we can sensibly target. You have to aim high.

And it would be stupid of collingwood not to target winning it, of course he should be thinking they can win it.

That's a tough ask. The Kiwis are masters of postage-stamp ground cricket and can chase 300+ with seeming ease.

The way England celebrated after clinching the series, it looks like the importance of ODI cricket is starting to be drummed into them.

Im still not sure we're capable of consistently making scores of close to 300, which is what is needed these days on good pitches, but we certainly 'out grinded' Sri Lanka in a low scoring series.
