Looks like a strong candidate to be poached by England.

And stupid me, I was thinking it may have been something meaningful, breaking an important Allan Border record. What a load...

Aye, twas amongst the most boring and vapid of threads, honestly I didn't want to dignify such lazy and triple-sh!t thread with a response(y'know keep it a 0 replied thread, indicating it's shititude) but as you two have lobbed in a bit of derision here's my penneth.

Not actually sure why the apostrophe is required.

To keep you on your toes. Seeing as you are posting nothing about cricket we had to find a use for you.

Saffie club cricket - if those records are meaningful then A.E.J.Collins should have captained England.

I thought it fitted right in.
Re: Young saffa breaks AB's record
Well, what I mean is anyone can post some irrelevant story with no opinion on it. Red does so prolifically that it is quite nose-bleedingly predictable.

That's the guy who got the 620 right?

Wasn't it in Irish club cricket?

Schoolboy cricket IIRC. I remember it from the Guinness Book of Records 1967. The scorer said 620 plus or minus.

Sorry, I meant Pienaar's achievement. Alan D said it was in Saffie Club Cricket, but according to the article he did it playing for Irish side Waringstown.

In regards to the young Saffie players who decide to throw in their lot with England, is it always entirely their own wish? Or do English coaches/officials give them a bit of a nudge and (perhaps) a guarantee of a County contract?

Nothig like as easy as that. If they've come over here and performed for a good 5 years in county cricket then maybe they get looked at.
Has anyone ever been tapped up like that? By far, most saffer born cricketers here came here as pre-teens and learnt their trade here.

Yeah, KP came to England as an off spinner who could slog a few at number 9. Jonathan Trott arrived as an all rounder who was picked as much for his steady medium pace dobbers as his batting.

There are far more Saffer born players in county cricket than that, there was quite a big Saf immigration boom in the 1990s.
Not many of those mentioned were seasoned FC cricketers either

Which is why I am referring to the ones who went on to play for England.
