What to do if you have no plans for Christmas?

None of my friends or favourite relatives will be in town this Christmas...

I could foolishly waste a helluva lot of my savings to go to some country no one has heard of - or I could save money, stay at home and sort out my office according to the Dewey decimal system, detox my body and catch up on my work backlog.

No choice, really, is there?

You spend the whole day in your pyjamas, eat exactly what you want, when you want, drink as much as you want, watch whatever you want on the box and have a fabulous time.

Buy a Christmas bird, roast it and then eat it all without stopping. Wash it down with a jug of gravy. Buy yourself a present that you don't need, wrap it up so that you can immediately unwrap it, and pretend to be thrilled with your choice.

Then sit in front of the telly, with a paper crown on your head and a cracker in your hand and admire the absurdity of English traditions.

Mynah, you can come and join us refurbishing the house. We have just finished putting in a wooden floor in the lounge and now for the rest of the house.

Must admit, I have muscles where I never knew I had muscles.

A Lao one it is then, unless completely unavailable. (I have no idea what shopping is like in Laos...) I'm wearing my Khmer alphabet T-shirt right now, BTW, and it is the perfect size.

My answer: celebrate. No plans at all sounds a lot better than spending your last few precious days leave chasing your family around the country, £75 just on a sodding train ticket just because the parents have decided to move back to the motherland. :|

My sister moved to Bangkok... Still, she's offered to pay for the train ticket to Laos. Hope, though, I don't have to wake up on a train on Christmas morning as I did two years ago, in Vietnam. (The view from the window was great, however...)

have no plans really ...although the family pet - called VoR - has been looking nervously as I read xmas turkey recipes
