It would make my assessment of politicians particularly apt.

I'd amend it just slightly to have an absolutely "Must Vote For" title.
The "Quantifying Unilateral National Thought and Standards" Party.
Your Party would sit very comfortably beside the GREENS, preferably after their title, with an exclamation after yours.

Neither party want clear thinkers. Voters might understand them and (later) challenge the clear statements that they have made. At the moment, listening to a policy speech is like being immersed in porridge. You know there's some substance in there somewhere, but where the hell is it?

You need a trust and a bucket company (yes I know about Div 7a - but that is easily got around). Never pay more than 30 cents in the buck!

I must admit I am amazed at the fuss this thing has got. You'd think it was the biggest tax reform in the history of reforming tax. It got more attention than Clarke being made captain of Aus ffs (and will be far less damaging)
Only because six days out from the election she ruled out the tax.

hohum...the best tax reforms would be
1 wiping out of trusts - or make them pay a flat 40c in the $
2 ditching family benefits and introducing tax measures on the 2nd and subsequent child (and making a carbon credit claim by cutting popln growth)
3 abolition of negative gearing on housing - other than new builds

You can't abolish negative gearing on houses and not other investments. It would result in a massive distortion.

along with abolishing HECS and replacing it with 5% surcharge on earnings over average income (a turnover rate charge would be used for lawyers etc who own their own business)
This would rid the present disincentives to participate in higher ed.
With all the cash raked in from the measures outlined above - there would be significant tax cuts for workers on below median earnings as well as significant boost to aged pensions

Horrie would have 100% tax - then the state could look after everyone.
I can see it now - Chairman Horrie.

h would have us all living in Govt built communes, instead of a good chunk of the population forking out (and getting some tax benefits in return) their own dosh to build rental properties to house those who chose not to/can't afford to invest in their own home. Without said rental property investors, there simply wouldn't be enough properties to house everyone.JGK wrote:You can't abolish negative gearing on houses and not other investments. Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (II)
I assume so, bl, but haven't listened today. I did hear a couple of examples given though. Apparently a single parent on $65,000 a year and a double income family with two kids on $120,000 a year will both be worse off under the Vulture's grand but highly deluded plans to save the world. Nice work, Juliar. Electricity alone will go up by 10% (on top of the 100% it's already gone up over recent years).
Talk about farking the country. Let's let folk freeze to death because they can't afford to heat their home, but one or two countries will pat us on the back for "leading the way" in a campaign that nobody else is joining in on.

The denialists were also going to be able to find a handful of people who were going to be slightly worse off.

Will be interested to see if Paul Howes sticks to his word (but as a pinko, that's highly unlikely) that "if one job is gone, our support [for the carbon tax] is gone".

And even if all of Aus got swallowed up by a huge fissure, we'd make 3% difference to the World's CO2 production. So even if the Vulture's grand scheme creates say 5% reduction (which it won't), it will have 0.15% effect on World CO2 emissions. Again, nice work, Juliar.
Awaits pinkos' bullsh!t "per head of capita" argument, again.
