Re: The reported threads.
Maybe we should do something special for Bastille Day. A French appreciation thread. Not the people as such (heaven forbid), but maybe the food or their over rated wines, their women are alright (to look at anyway), maybe their cheese, the 'Tour" perhaps (for the scenery at least, not the actual sullied event), their wonderful sense of self deprecating humour (not normally associated with them admittedly but look at their pollies and polly wannabees), their wonderful efforts at carbon reduction as evidenced by them trying to sink carbon polluting ships, their valiant attempts a population control in the South Pacific and it's now uninhabited atolls, their good neighbour attitude in continuously making the German and British military look......well military.
I for one will only smoke Gauloise that day and wear a ludicrous beret and forget the ludicrously long time I've spent at immigration at CDG when I produced an Australian passport rather than my British one. I'll even play La Masreillaise all day or at least the scene from Casablanca where they play it at Rick's. You knew that movie was pure fiction when some Frenchmen showed some spine.
Vive le Francais.

Vive la mort
Vive la guerre
Vive le sacre legionaire
You just knew the only thing the French could do properly had to be done by foreigners.
Actually if you substitute "c'est" in the second line it goes a long way to explaining the French.

hmmn rather similar to the English inability to undertake the messy business of war without consigning 'volunteers ' from other countries to the front line...there is an old adage - the last war the English fought by themselves was when they threw stones at the Vikings -

seems Taips has extended his antipathy to 'quotas' (which appears to code for certain values) to the French...

Re: The reported threads.
hehe....the very worst thing the French did was napoleon forcing French occupied countries to walk/ride horses on the wrong side of the road...for nearly 2 millenia road safety in Europe had been achieved by Roman decree about the need to keep to the left when walking or riding on roads

Don't underestimate the potential of Stones as a weapon - if anybody ever threw a bottle of the muck at me I'd know they had serious intent....

Urgh! Memories of rugby bus trips resurface. There was always some qunt who would pull out a bottle of that stuff, and wander up and down the bus, pouring it into the top of everyone's beer can. And none of us would ever stop him...Fred Nerk wrote:horace wrote:
