Its up the the "poor farkers" to take responsibility for their own actions. Wilkie is meddling in area's that should'nt concern the Government. Just another example of Big Brother, Nanny State politics that is slowly removing our freedom of choice.

err that is what the legislation is designed to allow.

No, its about penalising the majority for the sake of the few. The majority of responsible gamblers shouldn't have to be subjected to this farcical contrivance which won't work anyway as it will just force the problem gamblers to other forms of unrestricted gambling. Quite frankly its none of the Governments damn business how much i, or anyone else, choses to gamble.

HTF does it penalise the majority? If you want put a lazy 20 through you don't need a card. if you want to play big you just set yourself a $6 million limit.

The fact is that a great many of the responsible casual gamblers will just not bother playing anymore. This is where the jobs will be lost & club revenues will suffer and as it will do little to solve the problem, the whole thing is a sham.

Doesn't matter, it depends on what you can afford to wager. The point i am trying to make is that it isn't the Governments responsibility anyway. This is just old fashioned extreme left wing politics where the Government wants to control every aspect of peoples lives & they do it under the guise of social reform. Its time people started to take responsibility for their lives & stop relying on the Government to make decisions for them.
Wilkie is a one trick pony who, without doubt, will get booted out at the next election. It would be a shame to see an entire industry destroyed because of a one term wonder.

A letter to the editor in today's SMH was comparing the nanny state of government's limiting gambling and that of the policy to sell half strength beer at sporting events.

Is that acting like Big Brother too? Let's blame Gillard for that monstrosity of a blunder regarding the half strength beer. Which by the way doesn't seem to have decreased patronage or ticket sales to sporting events.

the pokies are a blight on the environment, and should be banned for that, if not to save their hopelessly addicted patrons

It's just like random breath testing. It is an inconvenience for those who aren't stupid enough to drink and drive. Of course we pay for RBT in our taxes...

Actually, the opposition to the Wilkie scheme, and the statements being made about it are remarkably similar to the opposition to the introduction of RBT way back when.

Everything has restrictions on it. Except parenthood. Gambling on pokies (well it's not actually gambling) is way too easy. If you want to gamble learn poker or how to read a formsheet.

So this 3 day gab-fest on tax reform and jobs - I guess it will achieve as much as the Vulture's govt has i.e. fark all at great expense.

And that Oakeschott is a complete arseclown and a dopey flip to boot. Can't wait to see my home town Fed seat wipe the floor with his arse at the next Election.

Actually many in the press are seeing it as a worthwhile exercise given that most of the speaking was done by people who know what they are talking about. It might have something to do with the Opposition not being there resulting in an absence of politics poisoning the forum.

No. Plenty of debate as I understand it.

One observation is that some of the lobby groups had to try to justify their own selfish positions in front of people who could call their bluff - and their bluff was called.

So the government have put in place a forum whereby issues are canvassed openly with accountability?

What a waste of time.

Mick

If they ACT on and IMPLEMENT the reforms suggested that passed scrutiny then the forum will be worthwhile .

if it's just another repeat of the 2020 Kevfest (or even the Henry Report) then it will be a waste of time

That was my point. The Vulture and the Goose opened proceedings with "The Carbon Tax, Mining Tax and GST apportionment are non-negotiable - now what would you like to talk about?".

There seemed general agreement that State taxes such as Stamp Duty are inefficient but if the Goose isn't gonna change the GST handouts then the States have no choice but to leave such taxes in place.

A total waste-of-time gabfest that will deliver nothing despite Farkschott's pleas for "outcomes, outcomes, outcomes, [various outcome scenarios f@rted], whatever takes your biscuit." WTF? scratch
