England Lions v Sri Lanka 'A', 1st Unoff ODI, New Road
The Lions are looking to assert dominance over a Sri Lankan A team who pummelled them during the unofficial Test match.
Steven Finn brought in to the side along with Woakes. Simon Kerrigan set to miss out. Lions to continue with Joe Root.
Strong bowling attack here, Finn, Woakes, Harris, Meaker and Borthwick. Plenty of part-time spin to be utilised.
All of these bowlers can smack a few boundaries, good thing none are donkeys with the bat.
No sign of the toss on cricinfo. Chris Liddle left out. No Pyrah either. Really very odd.

Sorry to be a pedant, but I don't think you can have an unofficial test match.

I don't give a flying fark what cricinfo says. If you think about it logically you will see what I mean.

Lions are 88/2.

The whole family Stokes.
Ben went up in the ledge stakes the other day during a televised T20 when he genuinely responded to a question with "true dat".

Which match was that then? Wasn't it a draw with England declaring not many down in the 2nd inns?

Yes, you can. When India went the massive sook over decisions by an ICC and threatened to call off the remainder of their tour of South Africa in 2001, the scheduled next match went ahead as an unofficial test.taipan wrote:Sorry to be a pedant, but I don't think you can have an unofficial test match.
Which may, on reflection, explain some of the pissweak efforts of the ICC in later years.
I reckon the next time a nation threatens to abandon a tour mis-series (odds are it would probably be India) the ICC should say 'fine, off you go...' and promptly cancel that team's Tests, ODIs and t20s for the next five years.

Poor form from a few forummers here. "Lets pick at minor details".
England Lions 310/8 after 50 overs.
Ha ha, time for James Harris.

I don't recall the England bowlers getting many wickets. All of them took a thrashing.

Gentle start from Harris. Showing those wobbly tall, fast, quick, amazing, superb English fast bowlers how it's done.

Jimmy is pulled straight out of the attack and Borthwick strikes with his first ball!

2 for the Borth. 3 for the Meaks. Runs for the Tayl and the Bair.
Yay, you young guns. Yay!
Maybe English ODI cricket's future isn't as bleak as it so often seems...
Re: England Lions v Sri Lanka 'A', 1st Unoff ODI, New Road
Harris salvages 2 for 41 off 6.2. Abysmal figures. He can do better.
Borthwick seems to be ticking all the right boxes. I'd say he's in line for that second spinners spot right now. Especially if Rashid can't even make the Lions squad and Monty is....Monty.
Woakes? Erm, I'll pass that one onto Danny. Finn? Accurate spell and still above all these boys in the pecking order.
Meaker? Quick and sleeker than the rest.

Just what I got from Cricinfo.
And it shows certain players are progressing quicker than others.

Hard to know much from just one limited overs game. Isn't it a three-match series?
Maybe we'll have a clearer idea of who is coming along nicely at the end of that.
I guess there's ODI places against India up for grabs.
