It's looking more and more like an Indian moral victory!
Trembles is a worry, isn't he? One thinks he's gotten rid of crockyness then his return keeps getting postponed. I'll be really glad if Janderson is out - he never gets a rest from international cricket. Well, barely ever. We're bowling him into the f*cking ground.
OK, it means Tonk-fodder is likely to play, but that's cool.

Not a penny, I flashed him my family jewels. And the stuff was rubbish anyway, I'm thinking a mixture of chalk and novocaine.

Some Michael Caine in there too. Not a lot of people ...
Why is Tremlett out? After all - despite announcements - still injured? Or a new knock?

Typical Lever, eh? Just bombs in without the article. It's the back. It moved from his hammy to his back in the last Test.

Despite the much-vaunted back-up team with its scientific and medical expertise both Trott and Tremlett do not appear to be responding to treatment. Both look strong doubts for the one-dayers (although Tremlett would probably have been unlikely to have been selected anyway). Maybe they should get in touch with Paul Stephenson, ex-Met Commissioner, about a weekend at Champneys!

Onions called up to England squad
August 15, 2011
| ||
Onions has taken 39 wickets at 28.82 in nine Championship matches for Durham this season and played for England Lions against Sri Lanka at Derby in May. He only took three wickets in that match but bowled with good pace and has remained highly rated by the selectors throughout his injury lay-off. In eight Tests Onions has taken 28 wickets at 31.03 including a best of 5 for 38 which came on debut against West Indies at Lord's. However, he is equally famous for two efforts with the bat when he survived the final overs against South Africa at Centurion and Cape Town. The Test at Newlands was his last because he was then dropped for the final match of the series at Johannesburg before injury struck in Bangladesh. Onions has been preferred over Jade Dernbach, the Surrey fast bowler, who was named as cover for the Lord's Test against Sri Lanka earlier this season and has also made his one-day international debut. Whether he earns a recall to the XI will depend on whether Anderson, who has 18 wickets in the series including his four-wicket burst to remove the India top order on the fourth day at Edgbaston, is replaced with a like-for-like bowler should he not recover by Thursday. Finn is the next pace bowler in line for a spot having played against Sri Lanka and has been a regular part of the squad, but Flower and Andrew Strauss may decide that with Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan able to trouble India with the short ball that Onions' fuller length is a better option. |

Suppose they haven't cracked the code. They cannot work miracles. They shouldn't be ashamed of themselves. I'm sure a 6' 8" henchman's back is quite a delicate thing, unfortunately. Probably a sprained shoulder joint is too. These games come thick and fast.

Said Anderson wouldn't last the series. Said it.
But like Mike Hussey crying rape, no-one would listen.
Pack him off for the rest of the summer. Don't pick him for the ODIs. That boy needs some serious R&R.
Onions, eh? Good to see him back. More like for like than Finn, so I'd probably go the vegetable way if push came to shove - but the Oval's often got decent bounce and carry, so Huckleberry could go well.
Looked awesome last time I saw him bowl (in a T20). But then he was appalling in his last Test outing against SL. What to do...?

You did note Jimmy half a due. This dead rubber should afford us the change. It doesn't matter what the conditions are like, Finn is the next, expensive, cab off the rank. And that's how it stays. Unforch.
Re: England v India, 4th Test, The Oval, 18-22 August, 2011
I'd go for Finn as Brezzie is essentially a pitch-it-up-and-swing-it merchant.

Get your hard-earned on Sachin's hundredth hundred, I reckons.
Dead rubber, flattie, no Nemesis, Finn - the stars are aligning.

That's been said before, but I've not seen much evidence of Bresnan being a natural swing bowler. Tends to hammer back of a length and get a bit of nibble.
I'd say Onions gets more "shape". Then again, if it's swingy conditions, Broad is probably the most dangerous as he, surprisingly, can get the ball to go quite late. When he isn't landing it on his own shoes like a dipstick.
Re: England v India, 4th Test, The Oval, 18-22 August, 2011
At least we can discern the shape of the seam-bowling line-up for the winter. Any three from Jimmy, Broad, Brezzie, Finn, Onions and Tremlett. Actually, that's one too many, so I would guess that Onions will miss out - assuming all the others maintain or recover full fitness.

Jimmy & Stu B are nailed on picks IMO Baz, which leaves one from Brezzy Lad, Trembler or Onions. I reckon Finn will miss out on tests but get experience in the one-dayers. That's how I'd see it anyway if I were a selector.

Re: England v India, 4th Test, The Oval, 18-22 August, 2011
Tremlett is bound to need an operation. Probably.
I mean, if history is anything go by. That's usually how it goes with him - a slight niggle rules him out for a week "two weeks tops - not serious", then he's not seen again for a month, then he's on the surgeon's slab. And then there's some kind of complication during the healing - an infection - and then there's a set-back in the rehab.
And then he's making his comeback, the following season, some nine months after the initial niggle.

Career ending injury most probably, the big jess.

Huh? Oh. Onions. I see.
I thought you'd just had a Thorpie fantasy and absent-mindedly shared the moment of climax with all of us.

He's my first Grahamy. And then there's Graemey. But Onions can be the third.
