And getting comatose is acceptable as well?

My missus wouldn't put up with that sort of excuse from me, I wouldn't from her and so forth. It's a load of bollocks. People have killed other people when blind drunk, I doubt that'd stop them from getting the book rightfully chucked at them. If you're in the public eye, you've really got to curb the ultra-smashout or you're going to get burned. But, no, poor old Mike Tindall eh, he was only fingering her. You can't even get an STD from that for christ's sake, can't believe the press are going on about it.

No, I considered your statement unworthy of a response.

Re: Rugby Gilly
Is there not an assumption in all this that sports stars should be morally above reproach? Sports stars = moral stars?
Yes, they are, willy(so to speak)-nilly, required to be role models for the vulnerable and impressionable young - if not for society as a whole (so to speak).
But should they be?
They excel, more or less, in sporting prowess.
Being ambitious, energetic and achievers (or more problematic, would-be achievers who don't achieve), with opportunities to hunt and gather, I would guess on a balance of probabilities that prominent sporting men in particular are a bit more likely than most to be carried away by both an "alpha male" mythology and a "laddish" head-bending balls-out culture.
So, you might expect a marginally higher grub/rat/slug/swine/worm (choose your low animal) rate of behaviour than your average human.
Why do people look up to sports stars - for moral guidance, and even worse, so that they can feel better about themselves, and the world as a whole?
This is not to say, of course, that newspapers should not enjoy the liberty to dredge up any hypocrictical sh!t they can find, and make a meal of it. On a daily basis, if possible.
It's not their fault that people want to read it, and sneer at their needed heroes. ...

I guess what goes through as acceptable differs from one country to another. The other day I came across a pic of French flyhalf Frederic Michalak draped on a fur rug clad wearing nothing but the tattoo on his right buttock. Most of the comments were highly complimentary, though I'm not sure how Monsieur Michalak feels about the fact that those who would most love to do him tend to have names like Rob, Bryan and Justin ...

Crap JGK. It was the full team for the 2nd test.

Maybe, all you Saffies look alike to me. The Aust side will be weaker than what we put out for that second game though.

Re: Rugby Gilly
I'm not a massive rugby fan, so I might be missing something here, but what does Tindall offer England anyway? Pretty sure most Centre's have pace and are good at evading tackles and creating opportunities for the wingers. Tindall always just seems like a back-row forward who got lost.
The likes of Greenwood who we had in the past, or other team's centre's like Jamie Roberts, Brian O'Driscoll, etc always seemed to be a threat, Tindall - 14 tries in a 12 year test career?

I also think the 'Sports Star = Role-Model' argument is complete nonsense.
But.... in Tindall's case its nothing to do with him being a sports star, its because he's a minor royal. If Tindall had groped some blonde while drinking a few beers at the 2003 World Cup (which he might well have done for all I know) it wouldn't have sold papers. Rugby players tend not to be high profile, they have to do something extreme like tear down the M1 in the wrong direction in a golf buggy whilst pissed off their head to make the papers. People married to the Queen's Granddaughter on the other hand do sell papers.

England do tend to favour at least one centre in that sort of mould, sometimes two. I suppose it's like having attacking or defensive central midfielders in football, few are purely one or the other but the pairing has to be able to do both. I would like to see someone with a bit more attacking flair in that position, but Johnson's plan seems to rely on the back three for that.

Sage. There's no way this mob of dumb twats will grow a collective brain and play sensible enough Rugby to beat the Boks. And even if they do actually do what Deans tells them to, that arrogant garquestick Cooper will fark it up with a dumb play.lardbucket wrote:Henry wrote:The general feeling in the Aussie Press today is that the Wallabies are f*cked if it rains.

FFS the facts are. Australia are TN champions, have beaten SA twice this season and in 4 out of the last 5.
Frankly all this reverse woofing is becoming tedious, almost subiesque.
