Re: Beautiful Weather in Blighty :)
About to have a big storm come from here in the West too. Meant to get as low as 18°C on Thursday too. Two days away from Summer starting.

38 degrees here on Thursday. Massive electric storm this morning. Good to get a downpour to help the garden.

It can. You can take precautions though.

As floods go, this has been nowhere near as bad as 2007 in these parts - Tewkesbury's copped it though.

The river's gone. The canals are about to go. Apparently that's just the start round these parts.
You must be laughing, what with your usual scuba season.
Re: Beautiful Weather in Blighty :)
The floods look worse than they are because of the width of the river plain - particularly south of the county ground - the truth is the water is probably for the most part about three feet deep with relatively few houses in its path.
I'd be pissed of if I lived in Kempsey though - £1.7m on a flood defence system and the damn thing didn't work!

No flood but the bad weather here started in the wee hours of the morning and hasn't stopped. Tons of weather warning but not as bad as the storms that knocked over fences etc recently.

Absolutely bat-shit crazy storm this, been going on for over a couple of days now. Just as well we mended the fence line 2-bad-storms ago.
Definitely in top 5 storms I've experience since moving to the south-west of WA. Can't remember a storm quite like this outside of winter either (its def not a summer storm).

Dig a hole in the garden & lie in the cool earth. That's what my dog used to do on hot days.

It's immaterial what the weather's like here. It's going to be bad, bad times regardless.

Re: Beautiful Weather in Blighty :)
They're out of sorts in Sunderland
And terribly cross in Kent,
They're dull in Hull
And the Isle of Mull
Is seething with discontent,
They're nervous in Northumberland
And Devon is down the drain,
They're filled with wrath
On the firth of Forth
And sullen on Salisbury Plain,
In Dublin they're depressed, lads,
Maybe because they're Celts
For Drake is going West, lads,
And so is everyone else.
Hurray-hurray-hurray!!!
Misery's here to stay!!!.
There are bad times just around the corner,
There are dark clouds hurtling through the sky
And it's no good whining
About a silver lining
For we know from experience that they won't roll by,
With a scowl and a frown
We'll keep our peckers down
And prepare for depression and doom and dread,
We're going to unpack our troubles from our old kit bag
And wait until we drop down dead.

Re: Beautiful Weather in Blighty :)
I've reached the ultimate day of my trip to Blighty to see the youngest sprog. I arrived to snow flurries but after the first couple of days, it has been glorious weather. No rain and temps in the high teens.
She feels recharged after a decent dose of her dear old Dad. We've had a great time, including a road trip around the South Coast, Bath and Cotswolds. We've had a lot of laughs and a great 2 and a half weeks.
I'm very proud of her. She's nicely set up now in her new house that's she's very much turned into her home.
While I was careful and used a mask all the time (got a negative PCR on Saturday), COVID seems very much like an after-thought here in the UK. Masks were pretty rare and the disease is barely talked about.

Re: Beautiful Weather in Blighty :)
Even though more people than ever seem to actually have it! Amount of sick leave etc. is substantial but proportion of serious cases is low due to high vaccination coverage and people having had it before, so for better or worse they’ve just decided to largely get on with things. Not that most people would probably follow any restrictions now anyway, given it emerged the people who actually imposed them didn’t do so before…skully wrote:While I was careful and used a mask all the time (got a negative PCR on Saturday), COVID seems very much like an after-thought here in the UK.
