Re: The Walking Dead
S05E03.
- Spoiler:
- A surprisingly quick & satisfying wrap up to last week's ending. It was a night episode so it was a bit hard to see everything going on!!
We get a long speech from Gareth to the legless Bob about the humanity of Terminus, before Bob starts crying then laughing hysterically. They think he's gone nutty but he shows them his bite (from the Food bank) & informs them they've been eating his tainted meat!!! His bite explains why he inexplicably went outside in the dark for a cry in the previous ep.
Bob wakes up in front of the church, with Rick & crew horrified at what the Terminus grubs did to him. Sasha is gutted to learn he's been bitten (as well as had his leg eaten!!).
Abraham wants to split to DC in the repaired bus but does a deal to stay for half a day more.
Gareth & crew case the church then enter when they think Rick, Michonne, Maggie, Glenn, Sasha, Abraham & Rosita have gone on a mission & left Judith & the rest behind. But the A-team have doubled back, & trap the Terminus refuse & get them on their knees. Rick calmly hacks Gareth's head to pieces and Sasha takes her anger out on another, stabbing him/her numerous times in the neck. They don't waste any bullets, bludgeoning the rest to death. Michonne gets her katana back.
Bob dies & Tyreese knifes him in the temple to save Sasha doing it.
Abraham, Eugene, Rosita along with Glenn, Maggie & Tara leave in the bus. On a map Abraham has written "Sorry I was an asshole. Come to Washington. The new world's gonna need Rick Grimes".
Michonne hears rustling - it's Daryl. He turns to the bushes & says "come on out". We don't see who it is.
Next week looks like a Beth heavy ep.

Re: The Walking Dead
Haven't seen Ep3 yet, but Bob's gotta go. The "people who used to be in The Wire" quotient has got too high since Sgt Carver showed up pretending to be a priest. Unless they get rid of Cutty, who seems to have amnesia and thinks his name is Tyrese.
Expect Idris Elba to show up in the next episode, telling everyone "iz juhbidniss, yahmsayin?"

They're breezing through their storylines.
- Spoiler:
- Terminus done and dusted in one episode. By the next episode the remaining Terminites had tracked down the group and taken revenge. Third episode down, everyone's dead, and that's the end of that chapter.
Nice change of pace from week after week of walking along a train track or sitting around in a farm house debating the morality of killing, but still seems a bit of a brief tie up. I thought they were going somewhere with the "tainted meat" line - what does happen to a person after eating the infected? Evidently not.
Anyway, on to the next thing - presumably the Beth subplot, which is mainly only interesting for the fact that her sister, Maggie, who whinged incessantly about Glenn when they were parted for a few days, hasn't so much as mentioned her name since she went missing. And now she's f*cked off to Washington, without so much as a "oh, yeah, if Beth comes back, say hi for me, or whatever".
The Terminus posse messed up capturing weedy Bob. Tyreese looks like he still eats eight meals a day - he would've kept them fed through the winter. The useless, massive pussy.

Agree on the good change of pace compared to the interminable approach to Terminus last season.

Re: The Walking Dead
Last season was a drag because you had two to three storylines going on at the same time. One of them literally involved Beth singing and doing not much at all for the ENTIRE episode.

Re: The Walking Dead
S05E04.
- Spoiler:
- As expected, this is a Beth episode. Turns out the black car with the white cross that took her at the end of S4 is part of a collection crew for a creepy hospital in Atlanta. They collect weak survivors who can't fight - so they can service the cops that run the joint.
The head cop is Officer Dawn Lerner, who basically keeps order by keeping a good supply of rapees to satisfy the creepy cops like Officer Gorman, who drives "inmate" Joan to kill herself. Beth agrees to escape with a young black man, Noah, but chasing a key, finds Joan has topped herself in Lerner's officer. Gorman naturally catches Beth & is about to jump her, before our singer stabs him with scissors & he falls prey to the just-turned Joan (a very B-grade zombie scene!!)
Noah & Beth escape via a lift shaft but are swamped by walkers. Noah manages to slip away but Beth is recaptured as the cops blast the zombies. She is then beaten by Lerner.
Beth's only friend is a weak Dr. Edwards, who saves those that Officer Lerner wants to keep on the books. He gets Beth to kill a new patient (who is badly injured, but Lerner insists he be saved) by telling her to give him a shot of Clozapine. She thinks it's medicine, but it causes the guy to seize & die. Turns out Edwards knew this guy was a doctor & didn't want to risk being chucked to the "rotters", as he suspects Lerner would have done once the new doc was well enough.
Ep ends with Beth planning another tilt at escape, scalpel in hand, but a new patient is wheeled in. It's Carol!!
Beth doesn't sing, but during a discussion about the fine arts with Edwards, tells him she does.

Nah Nath - she's Queen Badass - US reviews told me so. Daryl will come riding in on a white horse and save her and Beth.

She hummed. That's basically singing.
- Spoiler:
- And it made that woman with one arm want to kill herself.
I feel like I must've missed an episode somewhere. How did Beth break her wrist? Did we see that? Is that the whole story: hospital people picked up Beth when she was out with Daryl and nothing much happened of note in-between times. Eh?
Why were they even collecting people so far out in the sticks - presumably the "good guys" are miles away from Atlanta by now. That was season 1.
Very strange episode. I was half expecting it to end up with an "it was all just a bad dream" reveal.
Rotters is what British survivors would call the walkers. Rotters, blighters and cads.

- Clearly our valiant A-team have been walking in circles all around Atlanta. But it was my first thought - "WTF, Daryl and Beth were battling zombies in a house in the sticks only miles out of Atlanta??"
And WTF happened to Daryl and Carol, and who was Daryl talking to as he turned to the bushes and said "come on out" at the end of S05E03?? It obviously wasn't Queen Badass.

Re: The Walking Dead
- Spoiler:
- Carol is alive. Daryl would have been too distraught and gone on a kamikaze revenge mission around the hospital had she been killed. There would have been no straight-faced "come on out" scene. Carol was captured, but Daryl is hiding out in the hospital somewhere. Him and Beth will drink some moonshine together for old times sake, sing a few tunes, then rescue Carol, at the same time causing a bloody mess. But we won't find out for a couple of weeks, as next time it's going to be a Eugene and co episode.
After a rip-roaring first three episodes in season five, it's back to the killing time episodes reminiscent of the often tedious season four. And obviously it's all Beth's fault.

- Spoiler:
- It's either going to be the nice guy (apart from killing off his competition) doctor or Officer Dawn of the Dead that they've brought along. Assuming all three originals - give or take a season or so - return in one piece.
Given that the doctor seemed a quite well written, rounded character as opposed to the thin caricature of angry Dawn who is angry, and he might actually be a useful addition now Hershal the vet has bought the farm, I'd guess it'll be him. Might not be, I don't have any inside line on where they're headed with this - it's so far a very odd subplot.
Re: The Walking Dead
- Spoiler:
- Ah, I see. Parallel storylines. Fair enough. I'd then guess it's both Carol and Beth coming out of the bushes. I like the idea of Dr Edwards being with them.

Re: The Walking Dead
- Spoiler:
- Noah basically abandoned Beth. Either she'll find him again and stab him in the neck, or he'll say he had no choice but to leave her in the yard with all the cops and walkers, she'll forgive him, and they'll have a romantic fling that will end when (inevitably) Noah gets killed in bloody fashion. I reckon it'll be Beth, Carol, Noah, and Dr Edwards (the cowardly but secretly psychopathic one) who come out of the bushes.

Re: The Walking Dead
S05E05.
- Spoiler:
- The bus heading to DC blows a tyre & (as always happens in US shows) ramps over a wrecked car & flips onto its side. Natch the engine catches fire, but after they dispatch the hoard of walkers that surround the bus. So now Abraham & the B-team are walking to DC.
The B-team finds a town & hole up in a book store for a while. After Tara catches Eugene perving on Abraham & Rosita bonking, he admits to her that he tried to make the bus break down by putting glass in the fuel. His reasoning is that he is useless without protection & as soon as he provides the DC cure, Abraham will top him. Paranoid much?? Tara vows to keep this between them.
Glenn & Maggie have a D&M. In the dark, someone is watching them (Cleatus no doubt). Abraham conveniently finds a fire truck (with 500 gallons of water in it) but it only goes a few metres before stalling. It was backed up against a door that was holding in a hoard, which shambles out. As they seem to be about to be overrun, zombie heads, arms and legs get blasted off by the truck’s water cannon, operated by Cleatus, I mean Eugene.
They get the truck going, but it breaks down again out of town. They smell a stench on the wind. Over the hill they come upon a hoard as far as the eye can see. Abraham says “fark this, we’re going through them. No more detours.” The group gets into a blue over which way to go, then in the commotion Cleatus blurts out that he lied about being a scientist!! His logic was to lie his way to the safest place he thought there’d be – the US capital. He’s been slowing down the trip because he feared his team finding out his fraud. Abraham beats the shit out of him & splits his bad hand again. I think Eugene is dead & will turn.
Through a series of flashbacks we see that Abraham survived a hoard attack by fighting them off with his bare hands, but his wife & kids were seemingly terrified of him (perhaps thought he was a zombie) & run. He finds their mutilated corpses. He is about to shoot himself when Cleatus Elvis-head (Eugene) staggers up being chased by walkers. It is at this point that he started his lie.
Maybe we get the Daryl-Carol-Beth parallel story next week?

Blimey, the quality's dropped off in recent weeks.
- Spoiler:
- Turns out Lori isn't the only absolute spacker who can find a way to crash a car on an open road in a world without traffic. It was ridiculous then, it's still ridiculous now.
So Eugene isn't a scientist with all the answers. What a shocker. Hope he's still alive, though, as his deadpan delivery of weird lines is about the best thing this episode had going for it - I particularly liked it when he went off track whilst confessing his deceit and started rambling about his mullet - Tennessee Tophat - and whether it had been endorsed by his old boss, T. Brooks Ellis, or not.
Not a good episode. If the big revelation was supposed to have a game-changing impact, it missed the mark by a distance.
Eugene certainly went down like a sack of shit when Abraham laid into him, though. I give it an extra point for that alone.

- Or maybe they're hinting that he's immune? With all of the zombie killing and that open wound, perhaps the suggestion is that he SHOULD have been infected by now. It's about time the show explored the possibility that there is SOME sort of cure for this thing. Or not. Anyway, the season has gone off track a bit. The first three were good 'uns, but we're back to the pointless time-killing of season 4.
