Nice one GBH...
Now, it's damn early and I'm not predicting 'the second coming', however this isn't my point. My point is and always has been that Stephen Harmison will bowl whenever the captain wishes him to - an opinion widely slapped down with the odd 'pea-heart'/'weak constitution'/other bullsh!t dross insult.
This has never been the case. What has happened when he's bowling pure p1ss is the captain doesn't want to bowl him. Simple.
10 performances solid like this one still wont assuage the naysayer's clownish stance, but hey, anyone with an iota of sense could've seen the truth all along.
That's if you watch England all the time, rather than just cast sneering aspersions....

Good cheers. Thanks for asking. Hope yours is too skipper. However, this is all about GBH. And people retracting their cr@p statements.

Yeah, he was alright. Pitch had a bit of lift though, was bound to help him. He needs pitches like that all in all. Which is a shame.
Looking forward to seeing Chanaka Welegedara, biggish lad, left-armer, should be interesting.
Re: Nice one GBH...
Agree, i'd always accuse GBH of lacking in confidence, form etc but I too never really got the pea-heart reference.
Always tried has Harmy, going back to Trent Bridge 2003 when he was crocked and still ran in like a good un

Yeah, there've been times when he's done it without a mention. Just lob in a comment about '2nd slip' and you've apparently argued the case impeccably or something. He certainly has mind-melts. There's no doubt. How that equates to not trying or not wanting to try I don't know. There've been too many times when the skipper(whichever one) has lobbed him the ball in tight situations to warrant the snide references, but then, when he's spraying it everywhere it's easy for people to slate him in any way they see fit.
Re: Nice one GBH...
Like I said, he is much better suited to the role of third seamer - takes the mental pressure off, then he bowls accurately and gets good batters out.

When Harmy's good, he's world class, but when he's off the pace................
Perhaps now that he has had to fight to get back in the side, we will see him at his best

Re: Nice one GBH...
He's bowled well the last two Tests. It's a good sign. Control seems to have come back. For now.
Obviously one swallow doesn't a summer make (or whatever the saying is - I lost focus after "swallow"), but he looks like his game is going in the right direction again at last.
And his obvious class makes a mockery of the selection of James Anderson ahead of him for the first Test - as does relegating him to first change behind Stuart Broad in the second. Yes, his form has been lousy, but that doesn't mean Jimmikins has suddenly improved from the standard of "shit-arse".

Re: Nice one GBH...
PHS theory explained (without a mention of 2nd slip).
In general bowls far worse away than at home.
Reportedly gets homesick when he ventures away for more than a week.
And has crumbled like a Cadbury Crunchie under a car tyre when his captain needed him to bowl a good spell on numerous occasions.
Unlike, let's say Flintoff, Hoggard, Jones (Simon, not the keeper with the odd name), who, even when the chips are down have really had a go and looked like it.

Let's check GBH out say ... errr ... 5 tests from this one ... mid through the NZ visit here (all at home, in conditions to suit him).
If, by then, he's bagged another 20 wickets (4 per match) - I'll retract my contribution to the "crap" ... if he hasn't, don't be surprised ... and the "crap" tag will stand!
Meanwhile .... is Ace still in Sri lanka?? :?:

Well, with five grand in his pocket he could buy all of the North East. And still have change for a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale.
No wonder he's "up for it".

Re: Nice one GBH...
GBH has never NOT run in for England, even when he's bowled utter filth.
I do not doubt his commitment when on the pitch, however his homesickness etc.. Is a bit hard to stomach sometimes.
He bowled ok today! But still hasn't and wont convince me he is 'world class' as he is commonly referred to until he puts in a long period of good performances again!!!

Certainly. Still, so do most. I'd never call, say, Ntini a pea-heart for this at all. Or Vaas. Or Brett Lee. Or AN Other.
Reportedly gets homesick when he ventures away for more than a week.
Melodramatic time period, but yeah - he gets homesick. Big wow. If he was a pea-heart, he would leave the tour due to it.

When given the ball, he always tries his hardest - whether or not it's a sh!thouse spell is very much more to do with his lack of brains or lack of a strong bowling action.

Re: Nice one GBH...
I don't think Harmi has a pea-heart (unlike a Caddick for instance) but he is pretty mentally fragile.

I don't think Caddick is pea-hearted either - I can think of a couple of times when he has forced wins from difficult situations.
Again, he was just a bit easily messed up in the head department.

What planet are you on? Bowling at 75 mph when you are capable of bowling at nearer 90 is NOT trying your 'hardest'. The whole point of Harmison is his pace and bounce, if he can't deliver it on a regular basis we might as well look to the future and play Broad, or dare I say it, even Tremlett!
"We bowled full but we floated it. We had a chat at lunchtime, and decided we needed to hit the deck a bit more, or if we did bowl full, we had to bowl with some purpose. So we came out and did that, and the rest of the day was a lot better"
- Steve Harmison
It was obviously well disguised.

Has he ever put in a long period of good performances? His consistency series wise stretched about 2 series. 04 away against West Indies and home against New Zealand.

Sri Lanka must be the unluckiest Test team going around ...
First Lee bowls with a brain and then Harmi bowls with a heart ......Shoaib will probably manage a full series against them ....
