It's a problem that will never be solved, so I don't know why so much time is devoted to debating it. The only way a Country could conceivably stop illegal immigration would be to abolish tourist visas. And obviously the economic and social repercussions of that would far outweigh any benefits.
The new medication is working a treat Trev.

You could comfortably write a list of the aussie torys who've not travelled off their island and/or lived with the locals where strine is a strange language.

The security staff at those places all have to undertake a very stringent test. A bit like "the knowledge" for London cabbies. All of them can pick out horrie in the crowd from an aerial shot of the G.

Sage post.Henry wrote:The Greens face obliteration at the next election. Bob Brown was their greatest asset, but now they don't even have him. Christine Milne looks an unlikeable old hag completely lacking in any sort of charisma. And any campaigning revolving around carbon and greenhouse gas emissions these days is political suicide. The only thing that might get them votes is their immigration and boat people policies.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (V)
in the how low can you go Oz politics limbo, the greens are down there with RD (he has the natural advantage of being diminutive), followed closely by the labor rats and the rheinhardt-vatican faction party...there are no other competitors
the greens go for the clearasil generation, ferals and dalai lamington types
the labor rats and fascists go for bribes and dog whistle racism
Rd just goes for his sock

I think we may finally have some consensus on this thread. The Greens are useless.

At the risk of being accused of tongue punching skully's fart box you can think something will be a vote winner and still think it is idiotic.
For example, there are still 30% of the population that would vote for the ranga

It were a slip of the quote button, Mick. I confess to not reading past the first two lines of Trev's post. I shot a "sage" out as soon as I read "Christine Milne looks an unlikeable old hag completely lacking in any sort of charisma." My bad.Mick Sawyer wrote:skully wrote:So we are all agreed then? Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (V)
The wireless just told me that Australia's "do the right thing" emission reduction target by 2020 will be swallowed up in just 64 days of the carbon dioxide increases (i.e not counting their already humungous baseline emissions) in China in that period. To put it another way, any emission reductions we achieve (which will be ZERO) will be replaced in 64 days by the additional emissions China will be spewing out by 2020.
But ask Red - China is heading in the right direction.
As one wag put it, Aus's efforts are the equivalent of throwing a bucket of red dye in the Pacific and expecting it to turn the whole ocean pink. The Vulture and her cronies have NFI.
