Allergic horse needs her own pyjamas
An appeal has been launched for a pair of pyjamas with a difference – to fit a large horse kept [at a Horse Sanctuary] near Bristol.
The 17 hands high horse, Gracie May, suffers from a severe case of sweet itch, a medical condition that arises because of an allergic reaction to midge bites, for which there is no cure.
HorseWorld is seeking either a business that would like to sponsor the pyjamas, donations towards the cost of making them or a skilled sewing machinist who could create a bespoke pyjama suit from material supplied.
Is this where zebras came in?

Driver swerves to avoid moose, hits bear instead
(Reuters)
OSLO (Reuters) - A Norwegian driver who swerved his car on a rural road to avoid running into a moose hit a bear instead, authorities said on Thursday.
The driver spotted the moose on a country road near Hanestad, 225 kilometres north of Oslo, around midnight on Wednesday, and tried to go around the animal, not realizing that a bear was also nearby.
"The driver had lost a bit of speed as he tried to avoid the moose before hitting the bear," said Svein Erik Bjorke of the local wildlife authority, who was out in the forest searching for the wounded animal.
"We are currently tracking the bear and we have found traces of blood indicating internal injuries," he said.
The driver escaped uninjured while his car suffered some damage.
Norway's rugged mountains are sparsely populated and full of wildlife. The country, nearly the size of Germany but home to just five million people, has around 100,000 moose and 150 brown bears, authorities said.

100,000 moose he had to choose from, and he had to go for one of the 150 brown bears already. Sheesh!

Granny forced to abandon 4th attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida
An endurance swimmer has failed in her attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida after suffering repeated jellyfish stings and labouring through heavy storms.
Diana Nyad, who turns 63 on Wednesday, was making her fourth try to complete the 103-mile swim, her third without a shark cage.
Her website reported just before 8am on Tuesday morning that Nyad had been pulled from the water. She had been suffering from swelling to the lips and tongue after she endured two nights of jellyfish swarms, some of them from the potentially deadly box jellyfish.
"Diana has been pulled from the water. We'll have more information when it becomes available," said the 7.42am post on Nyad's website.
A previous update at 2am said Nyad was 55 miles from Key West, Florida – around halfway through the swim. Nyad set of from Havana on Saturday afternoon and had been swimming for around 41 hours when she was forced to end the quest.
(The Guardian, London.)
Tough? If she thinks that's tough, she should try joining The Bails sometime.

Victoria Beckham 'Bemused' by Katherine Jenkins' Public Denial Of David Beckham Affair
A source close to the Beckhams has claimed that Victoria is "bemused" by Katherine Jenkins' very public denial of a steamy affair with her husband David.
The buxom classical singer took to Twitter this week to blast what she called "horrible rumours" of her affair with the married father of four (known), also known as "Goldenballs".
In a series of tweets Katherine posted: “Dear Twitter friends, I’ve read some horrible rumours on here & want u 2 know I absolutely deny I’ve had an affair with David "Goldenballs" Beckham. The rumours are hurtful, ojectionable, absolutely untrue & my lawyers tell me actionable. By the way, don't forget my tour - starting 2nd September in Newport. Tickets on the door.”
Katherine has come under fire from the public and celebs like Lily Allen for addressing rumours which most people had never actually heard of until she tweeted. The Beckhams themselves are also said to be pissed off by the Welsh star's statement.
An insider in the Beckham camp has told The Mirror that Victoria knows the allegations of yet another affair are "nonsense" and does not feel the need to respond.
Despite claiming they felt no need to publicly respond, David's spokesman was forced to issue a statement yesterday due to the fear that Katherine's denials would only fuel the rumours. A spokesman told our reporter yesterday (August 24):
“Unfortunately, we have to deal with this type of nonsense on Twitter. One minute David is dead, then more scurrilous rumours, there is not one jot of truth to any of it. Especially that he is dead. The f*cking around bit - well, who knows?”
Although the affair rumours aren't well-known, speculation of Becks infidelity with Katherine has been circulating on Twitter liek wildfire for weeks.
Last night, a source close to Katherine revealed to The Mirror she felt “compelled” to defend herself publicly after being hounded by Twitter trolls and tests from people on a site called Flaring Bails: “She was being bombarded by hate messages from strangers, calling her every name under the sun, and worse. It was nasty, abusive and in some cases just plain wrong. Katherine felt she had no option but to come out fighting and clear up these rumours once and for all. Or at least for the time being, until the tour starts. It’s been a horrible experience."
