England squad announcement for India tour delayed until...
... after WT20s.
Pietersen not in it, supposedly. Rumours, bizarrely, that Bopara is...

So T20 form will affect the squad make-up. Is Ravi in the 3rd T20? Are they hoping he'll make a dashing 80, take a 5-fer, make 2 magnificent catches and score a brill run out?

They're leaving it until after the T20WC so Ali has a chance to admonish Kevvy in a naughty naughty cry-off. Good times.
Re: England squad announcement for India tour delayed until...
postponed for almost a month then. either they are still trying to get KP in or they want to see the CC form of the potential replacements for a bit longer

Vaughan thinks it's sad that the players couldn't sort out the KP imbroglio. Also reiterates this idea that the squad is delayed to work out how good Bopara can become.

I'm starting to resign myself to the fact that Bopara is not up to it mentally, and doubtful ever will be.
Some players respond to off-field adversity by coming back harder and better on the field (like Shane Warne in the 2005 Ashes against the backdrop of his divorce) whilst on the other hand, Bopara (somewhat predictably it has to be said) came back into the fold after some off-field problems, and batted like a limp dick.

Both the Torygraph and the Guardian are reporting that Joe Root will be picked and KP omitted from the tour party to India.

The media keep changing their minds on the KP decision...
If true, and Bell also misses a Test, we will have one of the most inexperienced batting line-ups for decades in that match. Cook will have more caps than the rest of the top six put together by some way!

We're rooted. And nicked.
But the Saffies can't complain - the quota remains strong.

Despite severe loss of form in one or two key players - notably the seamers - given the Pietersen circs and the dearth of throbbing young or older stars knocking on the door (with the demise of Bopara, Shah and such), it seems a selection.
It's a pity maybe that "Karate" Chopra - with his correct technique, and blooming with the County Champs of late - didn't get a chance in the land of his fathers and presumably mothers.

Root has been tipped for some time as potential international class, though his form has dipped lately.
Compton is more mercurial, in good form lately. No doubt the ECB are hoping that, like Trott (supposedly at least a relative of Albert), the old ancestral genes will come through and he'll stroke and strike the bowling to all parts!

I read somewhere that Compton is of South African origin. So not much loss for Eng from KP's exit then?

Yes, born in SA. But he's also the grandson of Denis Compton, so his blood is pure enough for us.
Bit of a journeyman cricketer if you ask me, but Johnny Trott has shown that an unflashy, unfashionable county pro can succeed at international level.
Root's too green.
