Jimmy Savile
He fixed it for himself - and over and over and over again, it seems.
What a bloody dispiriting story.
Sociopathy plus power: a dangerous mix.
And it appears that the BBC effectively fostered that whole culture of young women, or even pubescent girls, as fair game.
Even more depressing.

Re: Jimmy Savile
Knew he was a scandal waiting to happen when I watched that Theroux doc. Dodgy, dodgy bleeder.
Re: Jimmy Savile
The amazing thing is that most people had long suspected it, but the Police didn't bother to properly investigate him when he was still alive.
He even admitted to sleeping with a young girl in his 1974 Autobiography FFS, and there had been constant rumours of it throughout his career.
If you were asked to come up with the absolute stereotype of a paedophile, then surely this is what you would imagine he would look like-

Re: Jimmy Savile
"Those who stood by and did nothing are just as guilty"
Fine, we can have that in our law if people want it, but it will apply equally to each and every crime. Failure to report a crime results in a sentence equal to that of the perpetrator. Any crime. No matter how minor.
He's blatantly guilty. But it's trial by media, as usual.

And visiting Stoke Mandeville, abusing as he cheered them up, it now seems.
Trike - I would normally agree about Trial by Media, and wholeheartedly. Especially when the international gutter press gets going. But in this case you now have well over a hundred silences broken, many in the know admitting it was scarcely a secret, plus weighty circumstantial and some prima facie evidence. It looks overdetermined to me.

Re: Jimmy Savile
I "knew" about Savile ages ago. Someone on a media-insiders website had posted about his rampant nonce-ing in great detail, a few years back. I was surprised no-one in the media ever picked up on this (as they used to regularly peruse the site for any kind of dirt, gossip, innuendo).
Seems to have been a very open secret. There's a link doing the rounds of comedian (although I've never heard him say one funny thing) Jerry Sadowicz calling out Jimmy Savile as a "child-bender" some 25 years ago.
A sorry old business. I wrote to Jim asking if he could fix it for me to meet Gary Glitter - I feel I dodged a number of cock-shaped bullets.

Re: Jimmy Savile
Don't know if this is what you mean, although it is quite recent.

Considering this was just after his death before all the allegations came out, he seems pretty spot on. I haven't heard much of Sadowitz (almost impossible to find anything online anyway) but I thought this was pretty funny.

Re: Jimmy Savile
I wonder what sort of justice, Saville's victims can now get - as he is now beyond the call of the criminal courts, and cannot be definitively found guilty of any wrongdoing.

Yeah, on this occasion it seems they are right.
All the BBC's fault, however, and completely their fault for not uncovering it. Cos all the newspapers knew nothing, and of course detest a huge, sensationalised exposé. Especially the tabloids.

Savile probe police arrest Gary Glitter
Date
October 28, 2012 - 8:55PM
British police investigating the Jimmy Savile scandal have arrested former pop star Gary Glitter.
He was held at an address in central London and taken to a police station in the capital.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers working on Operation Yewtree have today arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.
"The man, from London, was arrested at approximately 7.15am on suspicion of sexual offences, and has been taken into custody at a London police station.
"The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed 'Savile and others'."
Scotland Yard has said it is following about 400 lines of inquiry as part of the operation - which is looking into claims Savile, who died last year aged 84, abused hundreds of young girls and some boys.
Police have described the former BBC DJ as a "predatory sex offender".
