Jimmy Anderson is the best ever....
.....fast bowling fielder. For all round stopping and catching ability, I can't think of a test fast bowler who has ever been better. After Collingwood, he's probably the best fielder in the England side.

He certainly made a case for a permanent berth in the slips.

Flintoff took a pretty spectacular catch at shortish cover point against Pakistan in 2005.

Flintoff doesn't have Anderson's athletic ability in the outfield, though.

I was just arguing the point that fast bowlers have the capability of taking cracking catches.
Just think about Glenn McGrath's catch of Vaughan in 2002/03 and Broad in the last test at Lords.

So, Anderson's in the side for his fielding, Broad's in for his batting - I wonder when we'll get some bowlers who are actually good at their specialist discipline...
Re: Jimmy Anderson is the best ever....
Swann has seemingly done a bit of everything?
AND he's not injured. He can't be English then....

Swanny was as diabolical today as he was at Cardiff - long-hops and full-tosses all over the shop.

Better than Aus, where Johnson is in the side for his Derek Zoolander impersonations, Siddle is in the side as the token zinc cream wearer, Hilfenhaus is in there for his German surname, and Hauritz gets the nod because everyone just feels sorry for him.

Did I dream his Michelle in the first innings or something?

Conditions did all the work. When he has to fend for himself: nothing.
Re: Jimmy Anderson is the best ever....
I thought he was the best England bowler today. And the ball wasn't swinging.

We need him to be like Hoggy: when it doesn't swing, be able to block an end up.

Could just pick Hoggy. ECB would save money on accommodation for him too.
Everyone wins.
Everyone wins.
Re: Jimmy Anderson is the best ever....
Hoggy is always a winner. Just look at that video of him prying out a well set Butt.

Davo, Rowdy Mallett and Roo Yardley were outstanding catchers.

Mike Hendrick and Chris Old were both both good slip fielders, as was Bob Willis in his youth before fast bowling took toll of his knees.

Clem was also a handy slipper. Which was strange because he was a lumbering clod in the outfield unless chasing drunk whiney poms

makes haurie look like a bowler.....
'
his appealing lacks appeal eg catch off boot in Chin's mouth award...with his penchant for wandering around the field with his gob open he looks like he has been selected as the team venus fly trap

Which is probably why he became a handy slipper. Be interesting to see which frontline pace bowlers have the most slips catches?

I assume that removes Beefy and Freddie.
If you were generous enough to include gully as a psuedo slip I would say Big Bird.
Otherwise, Clem or Hendricks maybe from my time.
Or Davo from previous era

Re: Jimmy Anderson is the best ever....
Well I'd narrow it down to first and second slip. Has there ever been any bowler to nail down one of those spots as his own apart from Warnie and Clem?
Didn't Beefy spend a lot of time in the covers?

In fact apart from Warnie and all-rounders is there a bowler in the top fifty catchers?

I thought Hendricks fielded 1st slip but I was young and didn't see a great deal of him
