Re: Old footage...
Was that Michael Fish doubling up as a sports presenter?
Looking at it it again, all I can say is what a pair of pussies. Lillie's "kick" was little more than a gentle tap, Miandad made sure that there was a good distance between him and Lillie before he started swinging his bat, and when Lillie offered retaliation he made sure the umpire was between him and Miandad!
I witnessed something similar at New Road some years ago - we were beating Notts by miles but were held up by a partnership between Derek Randall and Eddie Hemmings. Dilley comes on to bowl and being fed up of the sight of Hemmings' front pad, lets him have a short one which either clips Hemmings on the shoulder or the helmet - the batsmen cross for a single. Hemmings having completed the run marches over to Dilley and raises his bat as if to cuff Dilley across the chops, and judging by the way Dilley flinched, there was no play-acting.
The curious thing was that I don't recall a single mention of the incident in the press the following day.
