Is this such a bad test match record?
Just 26 short of 6,000 test runs. 26 x 50 and 12 x 100. Runs coming at a handy strike rate of 58.7. A top score of 167. He has also hit 51 sixes.
Added to that 256 wicket keeper dismissals.
Why does Bairstow get such short shrift from so many cricket watchers? (Let's do better than ''because he's a wanka'' or similar please).

Re: Is this such a bad test match record?
It’s a reasonable record, no doubt. He’s just about to play his 100th Test, so you’d want it to be reasonable.
Most criticism he receives is for his behaviour and demeanour. Just as (for example) Warner and Clarke were utterly unlikeable, and rarely performed at their best when the going got tough, Bairstow has appeared to many watchers to have sulked, sooked and whinged through much of his career, has made most of his runs when the going was easy, and disappears and/or makes excuses when the going is tough. The demeanour of Eeyore, or Captain Smith from ‘Lost In Space’. The anti-Border. A wanker.

I think you'll find the Lost In Space insufferable useless space-wasting pain in the arse was 'Doctor' Smith.
Captain Smith literally sank the Titanic.

Yes. Slip of the fingers. Brain fart. You get that.
It really should have been called ‘waste of space’.

How do we judge him in Tests. As a wicket keeper batsman or pure batsman? I wonder how many Tests he has played as a batsman only.
Because his sub 37 batting average isn’t that good for a pure bat.

Batsman - backstop.
He’s better than Wayne B Phillips and all the WI keeper-bats since Jeff Dujon.

I haven’t looked at his Test career really. However 100 Tests is a hell of an accomplishment.

Re: Is this such a bad test match record?
55 tests as keeper averages 37.63
44 tests as non keeper averages 34.95
averages 46.92 in the bazball era (75.66 in the first six tests of BBE but on the decline heavily since)
seems to be struggling mentally since the stumping ....also not sure how good his leg is after the break
he is usually a fantastic white ball batsman ...occasionally looks the same in tests but still has that open gate for lefties which they keeping going through ...a lot of mediocrity for 100 Tests
similar average to Carl Hooper ...

Incidentally it will also be Ashwin’s 100th if he gets a game.

Is Jonny boy cheaping the value of 100 Tests? Answers on a post card please

Re: Is this such a bad test match record?
I think he's been a real asset to the team, though i think he is probably cooked now. Many bowlers have said he is impossible to bowl to when he's going well and in the limited over format he has been incredibly destructive at times.
I think the run out should never have happened. For me, some might disagree, it really isn't how cricket should be played. I'm 47 this month and my cricket playing days are sadly over but i'd not want to get even our local rivals' 'enemy' batsmen out that way, i just wouldn't. Especially when a batter has 'tapped in' with his foot then moved away. If that has affected him (and we know Broad, another easy target for some cricket fans, was affected by the head hit) that is a pity. We want all players from all teams to be able to play at their best, or i do anyway, be they Indians, Australians or English.
Bairstow and Broad will continue to be under-rated by most cricket followers i believe.

Yes.
One of the worst keepers in memory. Reckon he missed a chance for every four completed dismissals.
The other three reaching 100 have been fantastic players. Bunter is a whingeing ninja joke.
