Re: Trouble in Aus State Politics
Desperate Dan on 774 this morning....said 'people are sick of hearing the name Geoff Shaw' about half a dozen times, thereby giving us another half dozen chances to realize how sick of hearing the name Geoff Shaw we were....an odd strategy, doubtless based on 'my enemy's enemy is my friend', which is bulldust, actually my enemy's enemy seems s bit too good at collecting enemies to have much use for much.

The cross bench is about to form government.
Lib, ALP ... the common factor is NSW. I blame BC Francis.

Kudos to the Vics for expunging the criminal records of those previously convicted under now repealed homosexual offences.

I wonder just how many people were actually prosecuted under those laws when they existed. I'd suggest no one in living memory which makes it a smart move. Gay votes for nothing.

While there is little public data about the number of arrests and prosecutions that took place before homosexuality was decriminalised, experts believe thousands of convictions could have taken place given the era - a time when gays were often ''witch-hunted'' or entrapped by police.
Melbourne author Noel Tovey was one of the men convicted of having gay sex - or ''the abominable act of buggery'' as the offence was then called - in 1951, when he was 17. The former indigenous dancer was arrested after police raided a party in the Albert Park home of the female impersonator Max Du Barry.

Re: Trouble in Aus State Politics
oh dear...a porn scandal has captured the ruling libs in Melbourne (MPs, staffers and a couple of Ministers involved)...feel for the Premier who yesterday fessed up to his colleagues doing this but said that the material while distasteful and inappropriate was not illegal...must have been a relief to the Premier that no animals were involved (he is a vet)
seems to me that this is the sort of infantile neanderthal behaviour traditionally associated with the private schoolboy toffs who infect the tories..
Anyhoo, our Premier who seems a pretty decent albeit thick bloke has been forced to look after colleagues that I expect he would hold in utter contempt

Looks like the Fed Tories have written off Victoria. Napthine gets thrown under the bus again with Abbott hinting at GST rises this morning.
