Monty is the one who appears on top of his game...interesting to see if he overtakes Chinhead as the 1st pick spinner

Mon-teh made Bhajji and Arsewin look like 5th Grade bowlers.

They made themselves look like fifth grade bowlers, to be honest.

They are these days. Especially Harbhajan. Might have played his last test. And Ashwin is overrated. No consistency, and his carrom ball is crap. Ojha is a pretty good spinner. Definitely India's best these days.

Ashwin did perform well last year. Needs to get back to spinning the ball.

In the Subcontinent / UAE. This year they've taken 70 wickets @ 22.81, S/R 51.7...
That's nothing to sniff at.
Agreed.
Unfortunately the batsmen have also had problems.
Personally I have a problem with wickets that are spin orientated.
That's....surprising. I could well say I have a problem with wickets that support pace, bounce, seam...which would be quite, erm, weird.

Aye, don't get the issues with spinning pitches. So, it's different, isn't that part of touring?

I have a problem with Dhoni. His keeping has slid alarmingly in the last couple of years, and he has no real clue with the bat either. If he wasn't in the 'undroppables club' Saha would have replaced him a year ago.
If a captain isn't winning games, not taking catches, not stopping byes, and not making runs, it's kind of hard to justify him being in the side, isn't it?

It is, and he desperately needs to get better. Though a series loss here would not go down well at all.

If by 'not go down well at all' you mean that I have a 40 foot effigy of Dhoni's ready to go, along with 10 foot versions of the rest of the Indian team primed to make horrible squeaky noises as they're set on fire, while a few mates of mine throw hand grenades and stones (as available) at the selector' houses, and break into BCCI's offices and and defecate on the floor, yeah you could say it will not go down well at all.

Aside from that we would gently applaud the Indian cricketers' valiant efforts to win this thing.

Defecate on the effigy, just as a crowning glory.
I'm ethically sound, every performance is worthy of congratulations, as long as we don't lose. Then all of the English team are bastards.

Dhoni in the press conference yesterday-
What's the point of playing of flat wickets with no challenge? And he said it was a good pitch with the toss not being vital. Also said that three spinners was a late call after inspecting the pitch and the right decision
Pietersen is no Bill Frindall, thought it was Cook's 27th hundred.

before this match india had lost 15 matches at home since 1990
pace - 188 wickets at 22
spin - 95 wickets at 26
in almost all the matches the main wicket-takers were the pacemen, with the spinners playing a supporting role. the 2 series losses (sa 2000 and aus 2004) were both built on strong pace attacks
the current batting line-up looks a bit vulnerable, and the english spinners were most impressive in bombay. it remains to be seen if this is sustained

I had Dello in mind as my Pietersen Thread Starter Pop Idol.
Maybe we could audition.
Dello's the obvious, lowbrow choice for your thread starter. I thought you defied convention a little more than that. I mean, if you want purest abundance, encrusted in smarm: you should ask fish-lipped Rob I to reappear. If you want desperate prolificism with a side order of needy, obsessive hatred that rivals Red vs SA: choose Trevor Mudge. If you want to think out of the box a little, ask vilkrang or maybe BBB. If you want amusement in the style of pissing down someone's back and telling them it's raining, ask DJ_Smerk.
Loads of f*cking choice, you predictable Shirley Temple.
Funny you mention piss. I'm currently studying Urology. It's an absolute piss take.

Seems Finn is bowling well in the DY Patil stadium for the performance team or whoever. Might even go tomorrow time permitting.

Patel out, Bell in for Eden Gardens. That's the only change I can forsee.
Surely Bell will reclaim his "rightful" place at Bairstow's expense.
Wouldn't discount Bresnan being brought back at the expense of Stuart Broad.

If Broad is dropped then surely Finn will play, and if Finn isn't fit then surely Meaker will play. Broad and Bresnan are literally a waste of space if they play in these conditions, and Cook has belatedly realised it about 20 minutes into each test so far. May as well pick guys with a bit of an X factor rather than medium pace pie chuckers who don't swing it.

Given Bresnan is not playing for the performance squad, it may be that he's not in contention. Onions, Meaker and Finn are playing, and England are bowling now.

He is the captain of CSK in IPL owned by BCCI President and he won a couple of IPL/CL Trophies which really matter to the qunts in BCCI. Are you an Ignoramus or what? Which planet are you from if you don't know how important BCCI T20 cricket is?
