Well of course they can, india beat the better Australian team in 2001.
But india have to run better and field better, you can't win in Australia if you give up 20 extra runs when you field and miss out on 20 extra runs when you bat.

India DEFINETLY need to change their opening partnership. Maybe they should just revert to the same team that beat England a few months back, with Jaffer and Karthik opening, and Dravid back at 3.
Or maybe drop Dravid. Take away Bangladesh and he averages about 28 in the last 2 years.

it's lags nath, common sense is in short supply.
No way india would play harbi at the mcg and then drop him for the scg.

For Harbhajan to be playing, they need to include 5 bowlers.

What's with this lags thing ?
I have noticed his/her posts on C4, but never bothered to check out those threads, because of the trivial, non-serious nature of his posts.
I have had a different i.d. on C4, previous to Buckaroo because the first one was discontinued for some reason.

I agree. I watched that series as well, and at no time have this time around have I (FWIW) got that 'overwhelming threat' feeling that that Aussie team brought to their game.
Fielding and running is one part of it, which comes under discipline and grit. The other, equally important part, is self belief and taking the fight to the Australians. I haven't seen us try and put the Aussies under pressure when batting and that is what I want to see.
Not taking anything away from Australia. We were beaten fair and square by the deserving winners.

If this match is uncompetitive, I lay the blame squarely at the doorsteps of CA.
And their unsporting behaviour of deceiving and denying visiting teams of their share of practice matches.

Re: Aus vs India, 1st Test, Melbourne, 26-30 Dec (II)
Fielding for one isnt' going to get better.
This teams has more than its share of seniors. They' aren't going to get any better on the field. So that is a vain desire.

One thing i will say is that the aussies are much stronger than the 03 team that drew with india.
lee's is in career best form as opposed to career worst form last time and replacing brad willaims for s.clark alone makes a huge difference.

getting rid of that white ball specialist Bracken for that other white ball specialist Johnson, hasn't made much of a difference though.

this team needed atleast 2 innings to sort out their batting positions.
Having failed to get that, they have to do the experimentation in midst of real thing.

Someone should make a second match thread next time.

Bucks, for the final time, the BCCI is to blame for not having enough practice matches.

I am sure they would have asked CA to accomodate atleast 2.
But being the overzealous smartarse they are, they would have denied it.
