Farewell Ricky Ponting
A great Australian batsman. Some of his on field behaviour has been questionable over the years, but there's no doubt that between 2003 and 2007, he was one of the most prolific run makers the World has ever seen.
As a person, he always came across better in his media interviews than he did on the pitch.

And Clarke has broken down in tears at his Press conference when talking about Ponting's retirement. What a f*cking sook. This is Ponting's moment, not yours!

Top batsman, hope he has a good retirement. Will he continue in domestic cricket? And a cue for others surely.

Been out at the chiro's and just heard the news on the wireless. Thanks for the memories, Ricky. Congrats on a stellar career. May you go out with one final bang.

Wow, surprised to come on and see this.
Fark, wish I had the money to go to Perth now.

Re: Farewell Ricky Ponting
Nice circular end to his career, ending in Perth, where he started. Hopefully it's the only circular thing that happens. And at least the DRS makes it virually impossible for him to be gunned on a dodgy lbw ala Khyser Hyatt.

Re: Farewell Ricky Ponting
Got the text on this from Zim, who saw his first innings, and will now see his last.
What a great player he has been ... we will miss his fielding as much as his batting.
Hopefully there will be a role for him in coaching.

A true great
At one stage he was considered the best since Bradman.
But he fell away and the likes for G Chappel and Border are above him again.

Re: Farewell Ricky Ponting
Well done Punter. Great career and finally a great decision not a day too soon. May God give such wisdom and foresight to a certain record chasing SRT as well.....

Pup might have been crying because he was told Mitchell Johnson is playing tomorrow.

Re: Farewell Ricky Ponting
True great. So imperious from 2002 to 2007 it was unbelievable. Not sure which innings I found best, there were so many, but I think an innings that typified him was probably OT 2005, this is because it displayed not only his technical brilliance but his dogged and ultra-tough personality. Great player, thunderqunt.

Re: Farewell Ricky Ponting
Farewell to a great of the game. At his peak he was the most dominant batsman in the world and a brilliant fieldsman.
He probably extended his career a few years beyond the time when he was going to be reliable and consistent even if he still showed the odd flashes of brilliance. The telling points were against the best bowlers and with the manner of dismissal.
Like McGrath arguably a much different person on and off the field which is a testament to his incredible competitiveness.
There was a rumour a few days ago about a Punter presser so you wonder if he was given a tap on the shoulder by the selectors. Once he realised he wasn't going to play in the Ashes it was always best to go out with as much dignity as possible.

Re: Farewell Ricky Ponting
Obviously he did a lot for Pup within the team, behind the scenes and in his personal life. The current skipper was genuinely struggling to contain his emotions at the press conference. Of course, Ricky has overseen the whole of Pup's Test career, so it must be like losing a family member.

How can he be great? He didn't do very well in India and David Warner scored his tons faster.
