Re: Most ridiculous names
I'm sure I saw one of the cricinfo bbb commentators is called Vishal Dikshit but maybe I dreamt it. Although that's unfortunate rather than ridiculous as I'm sure when his forebears acquired that name they had no idea of what it meant in English.

Yeah, the alternative spelling "Dixit" is commonly used (particularly in English speaking circles i'd imagine!)

Re: Most ridiculous names
It's more like d/theekshith. Yeah, Sheila was the woman who didn't do anything in Delhi Comm games (although not in charge, that man's oscillating in and out of jail).embee wrote:MoH wrote:I'm sure I saw one of the cricinfo bbb commentators is called Vishal Dikshit but maybe I dreamt it. I've seen that version of the name here.
The 'x' certainly makes the name look less 'silly' to English-speaking eyes, if you know what I mean.
Was 'Laxman' also once 'Lakshman'; as it strikes me that 'x' might not commonly be seen in Indian names?

Re: Most ridiculous names
it's not pronounce dick, it is deekhsha .. it is someone who wields deekhsha. It can also be written as deekshayitar, somehow it got anglicized into dixit.
here is some insight into deeksha

Re: Most ridiculous names
Apologies if this is NTR and the news is elsewhere on the forum but couldn't be arsed to open a new thread or search ....
Looks like Willie and Katie are making damn sure their heirs are in abundance..
with yet another sprog on the way!
I'm opening a book on how many they'll finally settle for ... 5/1 says four.
Just to keep Harry (and the tree-talking pop, Chas) in the wings forever!!

Re: Most ridiculous names
Recently saw a satirical article which parodied the silly names, 'demonstrating' a link to higher mortality for Mykal v Michael, Na-a v Natasha, etc. Try Gomerblog.

Re: Most ridiculous names
Jordan/Katie Price called her latest one Bunny... rabbits around the world must be embarrassed to be associated with that icon of chavtacularity.
Katie Hopkins might be a nasty piece of work but she probably has a point on kids with stupid names (or silly spellings of regular names) - parents who give them such names are attention seekers who bring their children up to have the same "look at me" attitude as they have.

Re: Most ridiculous names
ridiculous names are not new, albeit current fatuous western cultural practice has seen ghastly 'names'...but
I think Nigel is the ultimate name for the fatuous and ridiculous...maybe it is determinism..if the poor bubs had been called Peter or Harold or even Eduardo instead of Nigel they would have had a fair chance of not being ridiculed

Re: Most ridiculous names
That's a bit harsh horrie.
A quick google search of 'famous Nigel' brings up a few highlights, Mansell obviously, and the detestable Farage ... though Nigella Lawson is the first hit for 'Nigel' alone.
