Re: English County Season 2013
Didn't hear the first hour of play, but according to the beeb commentary the bowlers just bowled straighter with the second new ball and there was movement.lardbucket wrote:Did anyone watch the game? Was it a case of the Australian bowlers bowling too short with the first new ball, and getting their length right with the second?

Re: English County Season 2013
I do find it a little strange that a player can just be recruited to a completely different County at the request of the ECB. I assume they pay the County something for taking them on?
It must be strange to walk into a completely alien dressing room, with everyone knowing that your sole purpose for being there is to try and push your England claims.

And how about the guy you've replaced hanging around in the same dressing room?

If he opens the batting with Matt Pardoe, expect the score to be 180 - 0 by tea..........................on the second day.

Somerset playing with a plan. Getting Phil Hughes back in form to be a certainty for the first test. Australia declare at 5/321

Local Beeb station reports that Boyd Rankin might get a run out for the Pears against the Aussies as well

Re: English County Season 2013
Why don't they arrange for A side to play rather than a county (who often rest players)? Then we could see how all the fringe players would fare give Carbs, Taylorand Compo another knock - and it would knock their confidence more too if they had to face Tremlett, Onions and Rankin rather than David Lucas and whatever other seamers Worcs have these days.
Re: English County Season 2013
The A team or Lions or Pussies - whatever; played the Aussies at New Road in 2009, it is strange that a repeat fixture hasn't been arranged. I'll be surprised if we don't put out our best available XI - the balance sheet demands that we take the game into the third day at least!

Jesus Christ who picked that England Lions team?! Was it Trev?
Some real 'talents' in there. By my calculations they've gone on to amass a grand total of 1 England Test cap in the 4 years since.
Re: English County Season 2013
Hang on... Denly, Moore, Bell, Solanki, Morgan, Davies, Rashid, Bresnan, Mahmood, Harmison, Onions? That the one you mean? A fair number of Test caps in there, though don't blame you for blocking out the memory of most of Bell, Bresnan and Morgan's appearances!Gary 111 wrote:Basil wrote:The A team or Lions or Pussies - whatever; played the Aussies at New Road in 2009, it is strange that a repeat fixture hasn't been arranged. Re: English County Season 2013
Best Ashes warm-up matches were in 2005. Aussie bowling attack low on confidence and every out ground seemed to be a shirt-fronter with some bullying batsman ready to smash their bowlers form.
There were double hundreds from Chris Rogers and a young Alastair Cook (in a big partnership with Ravi Bopara as Essex scored 500 runs in a day).
Then Somerset chased down 340 in 50 overs (admittedly largely in part down to their distinctly non-Somerset opening partnership of Graeme Smith and Sanath Jayasuriya both hitting 70 ball hundreds).

Oh, don't know what match I clicked on then. The team was: Moore, Sayers, Carberry, Gale, Dalrymple (as captain!), Davies, Woakes, Kerplunk, Harris, Kirby, Keedy
Though maybe that was just a bad dream.
Re: English County Season 2013
I've found that one. A 2-day, one innings, seemingly not limited overs match at Canterbury in August 2009... not sure if it was rain affected or planned that way? That team does have some TAYPOC factor though...

Re: English County Season 2013
And I'd forgotten all about Dalrymple, he briefly looked like a half decent JAMODI spin all-rounder before disappearing back into mediocrity. Appears to have retired at the age of just 30 a couple of years ago, not clear why apart from seemingly not getting the opportunities he wanted in his second spell at Middlesex...

Not clear why he retired? Because he was the epitome of the fatted up Middlesex no-talent dross.
Re: English County Season 2013
Didn't he go off to make squillions in the city? Or was that Loudon? Or both?

Yeah, Loudon was very, very successful. He ended up tapping Pippa Middleton - that's got to be better than monetary units.
