Re: Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
Hmm.
"So, yeah, Indians are casteist. Gavaskar was and is a big sook. Some of my fellow subis were cheats. Sreesanth is an a$$hole and Harbhajan a brainless twit. And finally, I'm not perfect. Oh yeah, but we were the only team playing in the right spirit today."
Judge for yourself.
And that's not what Kumble said, though I understand some cannot but help look at it that way.

Yes Aussies complaining about excessive appealing.
I honestly didn't see anything excessive yesterday. With batsmen padding up all afternoon why wouldn't you ask the farkin question? By doing so you make the batsman rethink his tactics.
Let me add that I didn't get to see the final 11 overs.

TBH, I did think the Aussies lost their rag a bit on the last day...showing displeasure at appeals being turned down etc.

Further to the Bodyline link about "there are two teams out there" etc..., it's funny that the Subis are now complaining that Hoooggyyyyy!!!! called Violet a bastard. Evokes memories of Jardine's complaint and Woodfull's query of "which one of you bastards called this bastard a bastard".

Kumble let himself down if he has been correcrly quoted. Just wish he would STFU for 24 hours and then give his considered opinion

Henry wrote:Well for one clarke actually walked when the ump finally gave him out
So did Ganguly! Like I said, it was about 40 seconds before Benson finally raised his finger, and Ganguly walked off straight away.
Ganguly certainly did NOT walk off straight away. He glared at the umpire, walked towards him, and showed clear dissent AFTER the decision was made.

when the use of neutral umpires for test matches was initially proposed to ICC, only two countries vehmently opposed the the poposal (no prizes for guessing) - pakistan and australia.
Re: Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
Well - haven't they served India well.

It doesn't matter where the umpires come from; fans on here will still have a good sook about them.

Shouldn't you go and do a Michael Hutchence impersonation in a Sydney hotel room?Henry wrote:Shouldn't Adam Gilchrist publicly denounce Symonds for not walking before he backs him up in a racisim claim then?

With the news today that the Indian team bus hit a parked Merc in Sydney, the third link to the Bodyline series is now complete.
This is reminiscent of Yabba's sledge of Jardine who was brushing away some flies:
"Hey Jardine, leave our bloody flies alone".

Gawd, imagine how must've been in those days then. Did they have to take a shrinking potion before getting on?

To be Honest Kumble's little sook is really a non-issue. Let him go and sit in his hotel room for a couple of days with some chocolate and a cup of tea, and he'll realise he's playing a professional sport.

One of the best threads ever in the stellar month of Jan 08.
Lots of Bannie bleating but Trev was in rare form.

Re: Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
Good times.
If I'm not mistaken, this thread started the most tumultuous week or so ever in FB history. It took place in the immediate aftermath of THAT Sydney Test and after Kumble spat it at the post-Test presser.
It assisted January 2008 to be the best posting month ever (>22,000 posts) in Flaming Bails short history.
