I admit that every time I see this thread pop up I want to argue the reverse.

His forays into a 'media career' have not helped. He is totally fatuous. Oddly enough he equates to Fleas who remains the most implausible voice n the 'Commentariat'.

Was he always thus? I remember him on his debut (which I thought was ill deserved) batting with ease and joy. While never at risk of being described as a great of the game, he rose to the challenge of captaincy in a most positive manner and in a difficult time.

i think the knocks on him began with the Chokarian incident (people forget he was the victim of an assault by a drunk) and then he split with his girlfriend (forgotten her name as her 15 minutes of fame have elapsed). Not much reason to castigate - surely ya shirleys.

Yes. Clarke is a bogan Big deal. He has a go at improving himself. Not such a bad thing. IMLTHO he is not within cooee of being the worst Oz player to have a baggy green leadership role.

Sure, I get that he did not do the right thing by refusing to drink himself half unconscious (according to some) and made the decision to go off and have fun with his gf.

Nonetheless I doubt it has ever been acknowledged here that he did not press charges against the person who tried to choke him.

I ask you, all of you whether you would blackball someone who had choked you. When made captain and with his personal life across the Tabloids he still turned up and batted beautifully.

I am by no means a Clarke fan, but I expect that history will evidence he was reasonable in the captaincy role during a rebuild period.
