He's been talked up many times before, and constantly collapsed under the weight of expectation.

And KP should surely be inked in as England's ODI opener from now on, even with Cook and Bell back.

Personally, I think Fawad should get a place in the Oz side at The Gabba. Don't be

Yeah...and unfortunately our selectors seem to listen to them.Henry wrote:I love it how the Aussie ex players immediately start talking up guys for their test side after a few good T20 and ODI performances. Love it.

Good knocks by Pup & Beetle. A suprisingly easy win in the end. Could'nt understand Morgan sending Aust in.

...and somehow they have resisted the temptation to give Bailey a chance at 5 or 6 in the Test teamNath wrote:bloody dills.Big Dog wrote:Yeah...and unfortunately our selectors seem to listen to them.Henry wrote:I love it how the Aussie ex players immediately start talking up guys for their test side after a few good T20 and ODI performances. Sagest of sage Wozzie sageness. It's a ferkin disgrace that Beetle hasn't been given a chance to stabilise the middle order in the Test side, while we fark around with arseclowns like Warner and Hughes. FFS, do a Hussey and introduce him as a 31 yer old Test debutant, and get 4 or 5 good years out of him.embee wrote:...and somehow they have resisted the temptation to give Bailey a chance at 5 or 6 in the Test teamNath wrote:bloody dills.Big Dog wrote:Yeah...and unfortunately our selectors seem to listen to them.Henry wrote:I love it how the Aussie ex players immediately start talking up guys for their test side after a few good T20 and ODI performances. From the English comments it seems this win is largely due to the ineptness of the English NSP.

I fear poor young Stokesy has been 'Noted' by Dello. Noted in the A, then turned round and had the Note juice sprayed in his face.

Good aggressive play from the Aussie top guns.
But oh dear for most of England's hopefuls. Stokes was hopefully overawed or something - if not, he is a talent to shelve. Carberry for a second successive knock looked all over the place. Even his 4 was an off drive that hit the boards around the point boundary. He was a 33 y o playing like a nervous 16 y o. Overcooked?
The relative England successes (Pietersen, Morgan, Buttler with the bat, Rankin had something with the ball) were the predictable ones.
Oh well - onwards and upwards.

Overcooked, or delayed-action-Delloed perhaps.

Nah... if you think Buttler's success was predictable then I'm afraid I can no longer steer your cricketing knowledge into something useful. The bloke has been a slap-happy bag of shitty backlifts.
Re: England v Australia, 2nd ODI, Old Trafford, 8 September, 2013
I meant predictable in that he is a known big hitter, often known to get out early. The odd time, when he survives the usual couple of early mishits, it's bound to come off and the rope will be crossed a number of times.

I thought Stokes bowled pretty well. Beat the bat numerous times before getting a bit of tap at the end. Definitely should be persisted with.PeterCS wrote:Good aggressive play from the Aussie top guns.

Carberry looked a bit out of his depth. I blame Dello.
Root looks a bit rooted. I blame journalists who can't help but smile.
Buttler showed what he is capable of. If he can get through his first five balls (he's an awful starter), he can do some damage.

Blame Gilo. I didn't pick him as a third seamer.Brass Monkey wrote:I fear poor young Stokesy has been 'Noted' by Dello. Noted in the A, then turned round and had the Note juice sprayed in his face.
He's a batting all rounder who is good for a few wickets per innings in long form cricket, as he bowls with good heat, but it's ridiculous to ink him in to bowl 10 ODI overs as a frontline seamer.
You throw him the ball, see if it's his day, and then take him out of the attack if it isn't.
Not that he was any worse than Steven Finn...
Re: England v Australia, 2nd ODI, Old Trafford, 8 September, 2013
How did Fawad Ahmad look?
7 Overs No maiden 55 runs 1 wicket at 7.85 doesn't sound pretty but it's early days to go by stats.

England targeted him, but he wasn't that bad. Long-term his batting and fielding might hold him back unless he bowls exceptionally.
