Inverarity no longer most delusional wozzie in Oz Cricket ...
Cricket Australia chairman Wally Edwards has given CEO James Sutherland a ringing endorsement.
Edwards used his address at the CA annual general meeting on Thursday to publicly support Sutherland.
QUICK SINGLE: Watch James Sutherland's address at the AGM here
"There have been comments in recent days about James' role in particular and how critical the Ashes series will be to his tenure," Edwards told the AGM in Melbourne.
"I have to say that all this is as far from the truth as we could imagine.
"Our board is very strongly of the opinion that James is doing a great job and we are right behind him.
"We have an approved strategic plan that we're extending out now to 2017 and James and the team are implementing that very, very well."
On Wednesday, former national coach Mickey Arthur said Sutherland, Howard and Test captain Michael Clarke would all be under pressure if Australia lost the Ashes again.
"We want to see continued (on-field) improvement," Edwards said.
"I will reaffirm - if we lost the series 5-0, James Sutherland will still be the CEO of Australian cricket.
"There will not be any changes in that situation regardless of the way we perform on the field this summer."
Edwards also defended the resources that CA have devoted to the national team, following criticism by former captain Ricky Ponting.
"Over the last six years, to 2012, we in fact doubled our spend on team support and our high-performance budget," Edwards said.
"But we're also aware that just throwing money at the issue doesn't solve all the problems.
"Systemic change, recommended in the Argus report ... (is) also very critical to where we're going on the field."
But halfway through CA's four-year plan for the national team, Edwards conceded Australia needs to lift their performance.
"You might say we're at halftime and we're looking forward to a pretty strong third quarter, I would hope, in the coming year," he said.
CA announced their revenue had grown 68 per cent from 2008-12 to $684m.
They are projecting that will increase to $1.083 billion in the next four-year period.

Re: Inverarity no longer most delusional wozzie in Oz Cricket ...
Lunging footwork and premature over-commitment were among Wally's many problems when he played, and not a lot has changed.
He's basically volunteered himself in a position where any move on Dame Joan has to involve him as well - and WTF's he doing starting ANY sentence with 'if we lose 5-0....'?
Meanwhile, Mickey Arthur, who seems determined to set himself up as Aus Cricket's Mark Latham (with better manners), has declared all positions including team captain vacant if Australia lose the series by any margin. Not that his view really counts for anything much, but he's closer to a winner than Wally in this event I'd guess.

Stunning stuff. From afar, I'm astounded that such an underachiever could've retained such a position for so long. The bloke seems like one of the biggest clowns around.
Re: Inverarity no longer most delusional wozzie in Oz Cricket ...
A delusional clown to boot from all accounts.
Sounds like shoring up a sinking ship to me TBH.
"If we lost the series 5 - 0 . . . " - I mean, WhoTF would start a sentence with those words unless he almost really believed it?
As Corporal Jones in Dad's Army would have said . . . .
"Don't panic Mr. Mainwaring . . Don't panic . . . They don't like it up 'em, you know!"

Winning back the Ashes is but one of a dozen objectives Cricket Australia has set itself for the next financial year.
The problem for James Sutherland and the board he reports to is it is the only one that matters to the average Australian cricket fan.
Just as the electorate had stopped listening to Julia Gillard and Wayne Swan when they spruiked beautiful sets of fiscal figures before Labor was bundled out of office, the graphs and slides depicting Australian cricket in a strong state of financial and strategic health - which were presented to CA's annual general meeting in Melbourne on Thursday - will mean little if Australia sinks to a fourth consecutive Ashes defeat. This is a crucial summer for Australian cricket, and to guarantee the most senior executive's job regardless of the outcome is an odd way to start it. It illustrates the alarming gulf in perception between the CA boardroom and a cricket public that has watched the Test team slide from the top of the world to the middle rankings.
That Sutherland really does have the full support of the board suggests the figures are blinding. Revenues are booming, up 63 per cent from one four-year cycle to the next. There's a $70 million war chest for a rainy day. A record domestic media rights deal and the growth of the Big Bash League have made CA less reliant on media money from the subcontinent. Participation has increased 5 per cent a year for the past decade, and Sutherland has driven important governance reforms and the move to a new, national financial model.

But cricket is not judged like a publicly listed company and the pressure on Sutherland will not go away just because Wally Edwards has said his job is safe even in the event of an Ashes annihilation. The last home Ashes defeat, through the Argus review, gave CA licence to sack the selection panel and ask the coach to reapply for his job. Pat Howard has direct responsibility for the team's performance, but in recent days Ricky Ponting has drawn attention to more systemic issues behind the decline.
The usually calm Sutherland became combative on Thursday while producing figures to dispute Ponting's claim that CA had not invested properly in the elite team during its glory years.
Players are so concerned about the schedule, the grade and domestic competitions and the way CA manages injuries, among other things, that they are putting together their own answer to the Argus review. Those storm clouds won't blow over without a sharp reversal in fortune.

by the way embee, are any questions being asked about the bnlg's performance in WA?
a shield season close to the Ryobi result for WA would surely lead to hard questions about whether the gnome was up to the job...maybe the plan is for fleas to take over from the gnome

They missed the Shield Final by a bees dick last year after a shithouse start to the season (before Langer took over)
The WACA seems to be on a rebuilding kick with the team they have named for the first game
JL is under no pressure as long as the team keeps improving and heading in the right direction
