"Cricket Terms" - a picture quiz (1-12)
This one has too many parts to be manageable on the general "Trivia & Quizzia" thread, so I'll park it here.
I'm glad to say these are not my puns, but a dozen wordplays from two sets of cigarette cards issued over a century ago.
In each case, you have to guess the cricket term from the visual pun (or "sight gag", if you are American).
As always with such things, some are easy, some need more working out.
If you try it, or some of the images, PLEASE USE THE SPOILER - don't spoil it for others who come later than yourself.

Re: "Cricket Terms" - a picture quiz (1-12)
This is easy.
- Spoiler:
- 1. The wooden Fury. Essentially extremely aggressive hitting out - named after 1890s Australian batsman Bill Fury, who once went on a killing spree in downtown Wollongong, armed only with a wooden leg (not his) and specifically targeting domestic pets.
2. The dry bottle. Australian slang for a Pom with no ticker. Which is Australian slang for an Englishman with no watch.
3. Caught shirt lifting. When a batsman is dismissed while semi-distracted checking his Grindr.

All 5 needs is a set of stumps splattered all over the shop near his left leg and this is Steve Finn.PeterCS wrote:

Re: "Cricket Terms" - a picture quiz (1-12)
5 was simply "slip" (< sliding leg), but yours may be better
12 - certainly works. In 1899, they had "leg before"
11 - not sure they had developed such a view on NZ cricket 114 years ago!

Still open for guesses - with or without a SPOILER:
1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.
(In other words, 5, 6 and 12 gone.)

3 - again that works, probs better than the original.
2 - true. This time they went for the more elaborate version:

- Could also be:
- "caught out, if he was in the orchard/garden when he shouldn't.~ In fact, they went for a basic "CAUGHT!"

- Spoiler:
- "RUN OUT!"

Re: "Cricket Terms" - a picture quiz (1-12)
Hints on those
- if needed:
1 - think of another way of saying "peg leg", or "what's left of a leg"
4 - (grabbing a few) more drinks
7 - think Key/Sales/Maria/Cozzy as was ... or else Harmison 2006
8 - extremely angular fielding position
11 - loafing, but not indoors. (Or else not batting.)

Re: "Cricket Terms" - a picture quiz (1-12)
Trike, if you put your answers to 1 together, you have something some bowlers like to aim at ...
4. Agreed it looks dodgy in the extreme. But this is about a couple of chancers slyly topping up their alcohol intake when they have a chance.
