"Such indecent postures" - cricket picture quiz, with art, publicity & design gallery.

Below there are 33 cricket images.

Taken from art & artwork (paintings, drawings, cartoons, caricatures), publicity (advertising, posters, promotional "trade cards", etc.), also cigarette & other trading cards, over a span of almost 150 years.


The task: match up as many of the numbered images as you can with dates (years) on a supplied timeline.

The timeline with all the dates is given in the next post, and - for easy reference - I'll repeat it at the end of the 33 images.

So, you might answer, e.g.:
1 - f;
2 - v,
3 - b .....
etc.

Try all 33 if you wish (may take a bit of time - assigning all 33 to the right year) - or alternatively, simply pick off the easy ones.

EITHER WAY, pls SPOILER your replies, not to wreck it for others who may come across the quiz & see your answers before they've had a chance to have a go at the questions.


NOTES:

> If you look closely, there are clues in most images to their age. e.g. Clothing trends. Art/design fashions. Particular events. Quality and styles of image ....

> Most of the images are of GB origin. I'm not sure if cricket-related cartooning, art & hawking-with-artwork have the longest history on this island/these islands. But esp. taking a zany, satirical - or alternatively high-artistic - line on a sport such as cricket appears to have a long when not always glorious tradition in the UK.

Images NOT of British origin are marked as such (next to the date on the timeline).

Where a country is given in brackets, that's where the artist/designer is known to be of that different origin/nationality from the country of publication.

> DATES refer to year of creation and/or 1st publication of that image. ~ Bearing in mind that esp. corporate advertising icons may be repeated over many years. (A Coca-Cola Santa Claus, or indeed a Cadbury's Cocoa boy batting, with or without the slogan "Never Beaten", may go on for decades, even if with occasional design tweaks.

If the quiz falls on its arse, at least we'll end up here a gallery of mainly offbeat cricket images.

If the quiz works, I could repeat the trick a couple more times (but probably with  fewer images & dates!), probably featuring more named/better-known cartoonists.
