The term is a bit overused. But it's a handy putdown for batters who score runs but you don't care for.

Shad: "Stereotyping all Indian batsmen as flat track bullies and overseas underachievers is kinda getting boring. This new batting line up has some new exciting talent. It's obvious that unlike previous touring generations, these boys play a more fearless and aggressive brand of cricket that is entrenched in greater self-belief. Let them build their own legacy. They are a skillful bunch with solid temperaments and they've just started ..."

Re: Flat Track Bullies
Not in that sense .. no ! In this forum and elsewhere outside, bcci's batting stalwarts were regarded as epitome of FTBness. Does that have some kind of closure now, since the new one's on the block are somewhat clicking on sporting tracks as well.
It's all teams on the same base now, isn't it ? Can we finally close the urban legend that 'some folks' are uncomfortable against swing or pace since English too were uncomfortable against Mitch.

Its also complete gubbins too as none of this new batting line up will end their careers with anything like an away Test record to compare to the old guard of Tendulkar (54.74) or Dravid (53.03). The back-up cast, e.g. Sehwag, Laxman and Ganguly had their moments too, e.g. all of them scored hundreds in Aus back when they were in their pomp.
Re: Flat Track Bullies
they didn't have any 'moments' in Seth Effrica.

Re: Flat Track Bullies
Wouldn't Taylor's efforts against the worst Windian attack in history go down as a ftb effort given what he can't do against SA and oz for instance?

Allan Border & Taylor did look FTB. Slater, Bevan & to some extent Stuart Law didn't. I still remember Slater facing upto Donald manfully in an SA tour.

he did come across as a scrapper from what I remember. He was more of a great captain than a great batsman.

Blimey, you should've let that one go through to the keeper.
Re: Flat Track Bullies
Aye, the only hope was that the four fielders who could have taken it would all collide.
