Lankans in the box seat here. I don't fancy Pakistan at all to chase anything over 200.

Mathews seems to have f*cked his ankle. Suddenly, bad times...

which was the last test that was spread over 2 years?
how many would lanka give the paksters to chase? 10 overs of hitting could get the lead to 300. should be enough? or with this being the 1st test, one where they were quite a lot behind on the 1st innings, they will play it safe and bat till lunch and hope the paksters collapse?

I think it was India vs England in 1984/85.

I would have thought Sri Lanka could have shown a bit more urgency this morning. Looks like they've settled for the draw already. *Sigh*

Why are the majority of test captains these days so scared of losing?? Take the tiniest of gambles, FFS.
Perhaps test wins should have a greater impact on the ICC rankings? Especially away ones.

Sri Lanka's bowling attack is Eranga, Lakmal, Senenayake and Herath, with a bit of Mathews, whose ankle might be dodgy.
That's not an attack I think any captain would gamble with, only Herath is a proven wicket taker.

On the other hand, they're bowling to Pakistan, renowned Kamikaze experts, who have never in their history chased 300+ to win a test match.

Declaration. Pakistan need 302 to win in about 66 overs. Will they go for it? Sri Lanka should have swing the bat and got 330 ahead with 75 overs at them.

Equally Sri Lanka are one of the teams that make Hafeez look decent as a batsman... They chased 300 once, against Australia.
Wonder if Pakistan will keep Rahat Ali, call up Rehman or another paceman for the next test. Spin hasn't really bothered Sri Lanka too much.

Aye, they could have done that. Wasn't like they were desperately short of wickets.Henry wrote:Sri Lanka should have swing the bat and got 330 ahead with 75 overs at them.

Ah yes, Karachi 1994?
It shouldn't be surprising that England managed to make Ajmal look like an absolute sorcerer on exactly the same type of pitch two years ago. He's looked innocuous here against batsmen who have the slightest clue.

Wow, we might have even dropped Ishant by then.
Ooh, forgot that they'd had a tour of Pakistan in England.

Sri Lanka's rabbit in headlights first innings and Pakistan's gashness with the bat made the pitch seem better than it was. Barely anything for the spinners on the fifth day.
