Sadly, it looks as if the last period of his life was very fraught, difficult.

I suppose goes down in the annals as one of those "honest county pro" cricketers.

But he achieved some brief fame in the few ODIs he played - a mixture of recurrent injury and lack of ruthlessness conspired to limit any further international career, if you believe David Hopps.

As I am inclined to do - I think Hopps is one of the best writers in cricket today. Honest integrity of views, balanced, respectful enough, critical enough, well-researched, well-structured writing and expressed in a readable, effective style.

A polite NTR, Petey. WW mentioned it earlier in the Death Thread.

Sorry about the duplication! Tipping the hat to the Walter especially. I didn't see it (mainly because I don't call in on that cumulative thread much - for reasons I've explained!).

But anyway - as you know, I think anyone worth commemorating at all may be worth a little virtual plot of their own. Evanescent as it may be, on this whirled wide web of the world.

Fair do's Pete, but if anyone of note kicks off, they usually get a mention in the CDL thread.

Just for future reference - to save you smashing those poetic fingers to stumps.  Cool

strange deja vu in that I coincidentally referred to him only within the last week or so .. in the middle of a 'Boycott is a dick' discussion. Stevo once belted 100 from number eleven while Boycott steadily hunted the red ink at the other end.

Sad end for GS.
