Re: Twenty20 World Cup 2014
Incredible effort... you have to question the Irish bowling though, it's in the "if this was Pakistan you'd ask questions" category.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup 2014
Anyway, the preliminary stage certainly proved more competitive than we might have expected. One surprise team in Holland through, they'll be looking forward to facing Dernbach and Bresnan, and almost another in Nepal.
In terms of logical explanations for the Irish, I guess they just thought the game was won at half-time?

Hope the bookies didn't get to them, or any of the other countries involved in "surprise" results in the early stages anyway - these are largely players who don't earn a lot from the game and could become prime targets when they appear in a high profile competition that people want to bet on.

Anyway, Pakistan not quite producing the same fireworks we saw in the preliminary stage earlier. 47-3 after 9 overs.

didn't watch the Irish collapse, but it would have done well to top Bangla's effort yesterday.beamer wrote:Incredible effort... you have to question the Irish bowling though, it's in the "if this was Pakistan you'd ask questions" category.

Drop catch and terrible over. How many runs does he have to make up to end up with a positive contribution to the match?

Pakistan crash and burn . . .
India walk it.
Felch must be feeling somewhat relieved he's coaching India and not Engerlund these days.

Luke Wright ruled out.
How are England going to cope without his crucial six-ball knocks of feral hacking and desperate wafting for two runs and a leg-bye?
Oh, Craig Kieswetter. That's how.

T20 matches are played in Dhaka but decided in Dufai. So that should explain non-performance of Ireland & Pakistan.

That England don't have two Qunts called Giles in charge.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup 2014
At least we didn't get an undeserved win out of it to potentially strengthen their position.
I was going to support Ireland in this but guess I'm now backing the Dutch... of the major nations I'd quite like to see the Snoozers win a global tournament for the first time, they've got the firepower to do so this time though India and Sri Lanka are perhaps favourites in familiar conditions.

Team news
Australia allrounder James Faulkner will miss the game, as he is yet to recover from a knee injury. It could mean that Daniel Christian retains the bowling allrounder spot.
Well thats us farked.

It's really strange. I've never felt this sort of apathy towards an England team since I started following cricket in around 1992.
This must be the most unlikeable England setup in living memory. I've watched a lot of drubbings in my time, but I've never cared less than I do now.
It's not good.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup 2014
To be honest, I don't reckon England would have defended that total, anyway. Not when they continue to pick Bresbach.
It's laughable that they bowl Moeen for one over at the start and then don't bowl him again. Like they're trying to show everyone that they're being innovative and modern, before they revert to the medium pace shite.
They showed Ashley Giles's worried face when the the thunder was rumbling. I laughed.

And I see Broad has criticised the decision to stay on the field after the lighting arrived.
I doubt he would have been so critical had the shoe been on the other foot. But yeah, keep making those excuses England. Convince each other that everything's fine....

Re: Twenty20 World Cup 2014
My take on yesterday's match -
Five overs had been bowled to NZ.
The match was therefore definitely IN PLAY.
D/L showed that NZ were 5 runs behind the D/L required rate.
Broad approaches umpires and lodges "protest" at the lightning - no rain as yet - umpires continue play..
McCullum is aware of the target - Broad clearly is not.
Broad bowls a fairly loose (half volley) first ball of the sixth over - bang - McC hits a six.
NZ are now ahead.
One ball later, the rain arrives (along with the hailstones) and the match (ultimately) is cancelled.
NZ win by D/L - lucky, it has to be said - Broad realises his cock-up first ball.
Broad makes "Umpires make ordinary decision" comment against Daar and Rieffel.
Stupid and unnecessary.
Conclusion : If only Broad had bowled a straight yorker first ball . . . . ifs and buts and whys and wherefores !!!
