A lot of time left, but you'd think that after NZ reached 400 they could've pushed on from there and shown a bit of industry. It was very Ali Cook.

well at the dawn of this new era chef is the only giant strutting the international cricket stage....his influence is deep and in the case of the ICC is transcendental...I note chef's patonage has enabled the survival of Srinivasan and his elevation in the ICC... I have also noted an outbreak of politeness in cricket

I've noticed an outbreak of whinging pussy in English cricket - fully endorsed by Giles Clarke.

Gayle brings up his 50. Great innings so far, in the context of his colleagues pantsing their yams.

Same deal. I like to mix it up. Don't want to become hackneyed

Wise move. You don't want to join the cast of Eastenders without a fight.

I hope not. I couldn't deal with all the shouting.

As Wonky didn't make the cut, I guess it's still the case that nobody called Luke has played Test cricket...
Snoozies looking a seriously good side right now. For those who say "it's only the West Indies", can you imagine England dominating them on their own patch like this right now? In terms of "point in time" rankings I'd have them as a top four side. If only they had a couple of openers... still, that's true of pretty much all the Test teams at the moment.

Nice partnership so far from Rammy and Channy though.

Yoiks, looks a shite effort by the Windies. Offie Craig has done well, as has Southee on a featherbed for quicks.
And yet again it is left to Shiv to try to get the Ganjas to a competitive total. Man, they will miss him when he's retired. What a colossus in the middle order he is.

This modern "not enforcing the follow-on" trend, I just don't get it, unless they've kept you in the field for a day and a half getting over 400 in response to your 650.
Snoozers nearly had their fingers burned doing this before, you'd have thought McCullum would have learnt his lesson. How many sides have lost after enforcing it in Test history, three is it? And fourth innings chases are getting more achievable.

Shiv is just amazing at times, such comfort in terrible surroundings. Just a crying shame about 'trusting #s 10 & 11'. Shouldn't have twatted that last boundary, should've sneaked the single...
Re: West Indies v New Zealand, 1st Test, Kingston, 8-12 June, 2014
If anything comes out of this for WI it's that Jerome Taylor is in top shape - bowling with real accuracy and bustle. He needs more yards in his legs, but if he can stay fit then watch out.
Re: West Indies v New Zealand, 1st Test, Kingston, 8-12 June, 2014
Roach needed that wicket - he's been dobbing it down. Real misjudgement from the chucker though...
Re: West Indies v New Zealand, 1st Test, Kingston, 8-12 June, 2014
So, the Snoozies effectively 2-260 at Stumps on Day 3. A declaration with a 450 lead by mid session 3 looks a fair option.

Although the Sheep may need extra time to try to weazel Crabby McCrabbington Shiv out. He's at his very best and most undismissable when the Windies are playing to save themselves.

aye, but the rest of the team consists of Crystal and 9 blokes who try to bat like Crystal....meaning the redoubtable Shiv will lack partners prepared to stick at te task

The only criticism that can be levelled at him at this stage, justifiably imo. Brilliant batsman.Brass Monkey wrote:Shiv is just amazing at times, such comfort in terrible surroundings. I was gutted... he started to flay the new ball then did something as stupid (or selfish) as smashing the last ball to the boundary. I mean, a new cherry - who leaves the #11 with a full over? Knobhead.
