Sachin castigates ChappellG
no surprise there...Chappell I think sought to make the Bannies more competitive at a time of malaise under Sachin's captaincy.

Good thing Australia didn't have him as coach, or he'd have replaced Border as captain with Kim Hughes.
Having Tendulkar as captain again is one of the worst proposals I've heard...

Agree about Sachin as captain but the senior players in the team did seem to be in a comfort zone though. He was unimpressed by their attitude to training etc. in other versions of events I've read. He would have backed himself to out-catch the senior Indian players even had his advanced age so it is not hard to see that he would have been unpopular with them.

He dropped Ganguly... That was required. Fitness, fair enough. Those were good decisions that were needed, but the manner of implementation was straight out of Jeremy Kyle.Red wrote:Agree about Sachin as captain but the senior players in the team did seem to be in a comfort zone though. Kirsten did all that (apart from the jeremy kyle) and brought results on the pitch without alienating the whole team. Chappell was useful for a few months, but ahead of that, he's better off spewing in the media like his brother.
If he saw Tendulkar as a replacement for Dravid, then he must've been senile.... and that's being kind to him.

Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
Well the Aussies who worked with him said there was none better for instructing re. technique but he is too hard a taskmaster to make it as a good coach.
Always thought he sounds arrogant, especially when he (with straight face) remarks that WSC was a good challenge for him because up until then he only used 80% of his capacity.

As a shock revelation to sell the book, it falls a far way short of KP.

GSC says SRT is bullshitting
Chappell says the claims are untrue. "The claims made in Sachin's new book were brought to my attention earlier today," Chappell told cricket.com.au. "Whilst I don't propose to get into a war of words, I can state quite clearly that during my time as Indian coach I never contemplated Sachin replacing Rahul Dravid as captain. "I was therefore very surprised to read the claims made in the book. "During those years, I only ever visited Sachin’s home once, and that was with our physio and assistant coach during Sachin’s rehabilitation from injury, at least 12 months earlier than what was reported in the book. "We enjoyed a pleasant afternoon together but the subject of captaincy was never raised."

SRT to sell his book.
GSC to defend himself.
Not a GSC fan meself, but appears on the face of it that SRT is making up stories.
PS.... BCL >>SRT.

The same Greg Chappell that went completely behind Sourav Ganguly's back in trying to remove him as Indian captain? The same Greg Chappell who the Aussie players couldn't stand as National Talent Manager (or whatever his title with CA was a couple of years ago) because even though his job was to mentor players, they didn't trust him not to have a sneaky word to John Inverarity about which players he didn't like/think were up to it? The same Greg Chappell who has destroyed every team he has ever coached?
He was a great batsman, but also a sneaky, conniving shit. I'm with Tendulkar on this.

Oh agree fully. The only reason I am going for him is I can't think of any reason why he would want SRT as captain.

Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
Chappelli was on talking about the summer ahead and when asked about this (and he doesn't always defend his brother) said that he thinks that Greg is an astute judge of a cricketer and he thought that he couldn't imagine why he would see Sachin as a logical choice as captain. He said that he has no reason to disbelieve his brother's version of events.
BTW, even though the young players being mentored may not have fully trusted him one might think that that role came with a conflict of interest anyway because ultimately it was to prepare players for the Aussie team so Inverarity might be interested in the talent manager's opinion on these matters.
In his first incarnation as selector it was his gut instinct that saw Healy expedited into the test role.

Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
I reckon he underestimated how much Tendulkar didn't want the captaincy again, and how much loyalty Tendulkar would have both for the team as a whole, and Dravid personally. He thought that if he offered him the captaincy, he would be on-side with India's best and most influential player, and be able to secure his job as Indian coach.

Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
I note that Tendulkar persists with the pathetic Monkeygate lies.
Strangely his book does not - at least the extracts presented to us from it thus far do not - reference the crowd's 'complimentary' baboon chants in India months earlier, nor Harbhajan's own record on this issue.
It was all a coincidence, honestly.
And now, apparently, none of the Indians ever said anything about all the 'Symonds is a monkey' comments being a form of compliment, i.e. some sort of reference to a monkey deity ... only to change their story later when they realised that that wouldn't wash.
This was an unforgivable episode; Indian cricket lost me forever as a fan that day.
As we all know, Lehmann once (at least) made some very disgraceful comments himself. At least he had the honesty and courage to own up to them, to apologise for them, to publicly admit that they were totally unacceptable, and to endeavour to improve himself through that experience.
Sachin comes across as a whiny, entitled arsehole.
Does "I was wrong and I'm sorry' hurt that much? Lying qunt. Go into politics, you're suited to it.

Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
I think it's hard to be so assured and certain either way about what went on. At the end of the day it was the Australian player's word against the Indian player's word. The best course of action would have been to suspend both Symonds and Harbhajan for a test.
